What do arthritis, insulin resistance, leaky gut and atherosclerosis have in common? They are all driven by the same silent process: chronic, low-grade inflammation.
Nutrition and daily physical activity are the two strongest tools you have to deal with it.
Joint pain and inflammation are among the most common complaints affecting adults. Alongside conventional treatment (NSAIDs, physiotherapy, exercise programmes and, in more severe cases, surgery), electrotherapy – including microcurrent therapy (MENS) – is appearing in an increasing number of recent studies as an adjunctive modality. This article summarises what clinical evidence published since 2020 says about using microcurrent for joint problems – and also what it does not say.
The lymphatic system is one of the key lines of defense for our health. As a practicing physician I have met patients every day who came worried about swollen lymph nodes, i.e., a palpable lymph node. This article discusses the enlargement of lymph nodes. The role of the lymphatic system in your body You have a few hundred lymph nodes whose primary task is to defend against pathogens. These pea- or bean-sized organs [...]
Your body contains roughly 150–160 small, fluid-filled “cushions”: these are bursae. They sit wherever a tendon, muscle or skin moves over bone. Like bearings, they reduce friction so that the thousands of daily movements of the shoulder, elbow, hip or knee can take place without wear. Bursitis is inflammation of these cushions: the bursal wall thickens, produces fluid, and the area becomes swollen and painful when pressed or moved.
Jumper’s knee (medically called tendinitis or, more precisely, patellar tendinopathy) is an overuse condition of the tendon below the kneecap — the patellar tendon, which transfers the force of the thigh muscles to the shinbone. Its name reveals its main victims: the knees of volleyball players, basketball players, handball players and long jumpers, where repeated jump-landing cycles place several times the body weight on the tendon. But you do not need to be an elite athlete: a weekend footballer, a runner, a beginner who suddenly increases their training load or a manual worker who does a lot of squatting can also “get it”.
The shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in the body – and this mobility is made possible by a thin, flexible joint capsule. Frozen shoulder (medically known as adhesive capsulitis, formerly called periarthritis humeroscapularis) means that this capsule becomes diseased: inflammation develops in it, the connective tissue thickens and scars – the normally 3–4 millimetre capsule may swell to 1–2 centimetres – and the shoulder literally “freezes” inside its own capsule.
The rheumatoid arthritis (shortly RA or rheumatism) — that is, chronic polyarthritis — is one of the most severe forms of rheumatologic diseases and is accompanied by intense pain. In Hungary roughly 80–100 thousand people struggle with RA symptoms. Although in a smaller portion of cases it may even regress spontaneously, for the majority of patients the condition tends to slowly and continuously worsen over time. What causes […]
Plantar fascia inflammation (or medically fasciitis plantaris) is one of the most common causes of sole and heel pain. Beneath the skin of your sole runs a thick connective tissue sheet (formerly called fascia) from the toes to the heel bone. Its inflammation mainly occurs where it meets the bone, that is, at the heel bone or in front at the bases of the toes. The first symptom is a stabbing pain during the first steps in the morning. After a few steps it "warms up", but over time the pain lasts for increasingly long periods. It is very hard to "get rid" of. It can be treated at home, but be prepared for weeks — and more often months — of regular treatment to achieve full resolution.
Previously I wrote that tennis elbow is not only a problem for tennis players — well, the same is true for golfer's elbow: many people suffer pain from golfer's elbow having at most seen a golf club on TV. This inflammation can arise from the most everyday movements. Its treatment must be taken seriously, because simple actions like [...]
Tendon inflammation (tendinitis) is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints – it affects both athletes and people who work at desks. If you have already felt that persistent, pulling pain in your shoulder, elbow, or knee, you know how hard it can be to get rid of it. Softlaser therapy can help support the healing process.
