Remote diagnosis and remote treatment — is it possible?

Remote diagnosis and remote treatment — is it possible?

I receive letters every day from people who have been carrying some complaint for weeks, months, sometimes years. Everyone is driven by a single shared hope: perhaps I know something other doctors haven’t said so far. Maybe there’s a shorter route, maybe more precise, maybe finally a solution.

BMI calculator – what you need to know about body mass index calculation?

The BMI calculator is a simple tool that lets you calculate your body mass index (BMI). This number helps determine whether your weight is in an appropriate proportion to your height. The concept of the body mass index is attributed to the Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet, who developed this measure in the 1830s. It was originally developed for population-level studies to assess the prevalence of obesity in larger groups.

What to know about persistent pain

When we talk about pain, it's important to use the right words. In medical jargon you often see the term “chronic,” but that can be misleading. “Chronic” may imply that your pain will last forever, which usually isn't the case. Even healthcare professionals don't always agree on its precise meaning – is pain chronic after three months? Or does it require six months? For this reason it's better to use the terms “persistent” or “peristent” (persistent is preferable). These describe your situation more accurately: your pain has been present for a longer time, but that doesn't mean it must remain so forever.

Lymph node swelling from symptoms to recovery

The lymphatic system is one of the key lines of defense for our health. As a practicing physician I have met patients every day who came worried about swollen lymph nodes, i.e., a palpable lymph node. This article discusses the enlargement of lymph nodes. The role of the lymphatic system in your body You have a few hundred lymph nodes whose primary task is to defend against pathogens. These pea- or bean-sized organs [...]

Grounding ("earthing") — effects on health

Grounding (

What is grounding, or in Hungarian „földelés”? Grounding (or earthing) means making direct contact with the Earth, for example by standing barefoot on the ground or by using a product that is grounded. This connection allows your body to take on the Earth's natural electric charge, which supplies electrons to the body. Research suggests these electrons may reduce [...]

TENS, EMS and MENS – What's the difference?

In the world of home electrotherapy devices, a frequent question is what is the difference between TENS, EMS and MENS (microcurrent). All three methods act on tissues with electrical impulses, but the target tissue, frequency, intensity and indications differ. Choosing the appropriate method depends on your complaint.

Parasympathetic nervous system and chronic diseases

Modern lifestyle factors — chronic stress, sedentary work, sleep disturbance, sensory overload — cause sympathetic dominance of the autonomic nervous system in many people. Increasing the parasympathetic tone — for example with non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) — is the subject of an increasing number of recent clinical trials investigating how it may contribute to the treatment of chronic, inflammatory and autonomic-origin complaints. In this guide we review where the clinical evidence is strong, where results look promising, and where cautious wording is still required.

Autonomic nervous system – essential information

The autonomic (vegetative) nervous system is the regulatory system of the human body that operates independently of our will – i.e., automatically – controlling vital functions: heart rate, breathing, digestion, blood pressure, sweating, pupil responses, and immune and hormonal reactions. It consists of two main parts: the sympathetic ("fight or flight") and the parasympathetic ("rest and digest") nervous systems, whose balance fundamentally determines your physical and mental well-being.

Liposuction — what you need to know

Liposuction, also called lipoplasty or body contouring, is a plastic surgical procedure in which subcutaneous fat tissue is removed from certain areas of the body—such as the abdomen, hips, thighs or arms. As a result, the shape and contour of these areas improve. What should you know about adipose tissue? An average adult has about 30 billion fat cells. Fat tissue is made up of these fat cells and is [...]
