Details

The IontoBravo iontophoresis device offers dual functionality.

It is excellent for

  • iontophoresis treatment. The electrical current used here allows electrically charged substances (electrolytes) to be delivered to a specific point of the body, avoiding digestion. Therefore, it is excellent for conditions requiring local treatment, such as joint and tendon inflammations, Peyronie's disease, etc.
  • tap water iontophoresis. This provides a needle-free solution for those suffering from abnormal hand, foot, or underarm sweating.

It belongs to the same product group as the Dermadry device. However, Dermadry only provides tap water iontophoresis.

The IontoBravo offers two main impulse forms: continuous current (DC) and pulsed current (PC) treatments, with a wider range of settings. Therefore, the IontoBravo can be used for both joint complaints and home treatment of hyperhidrosis. The application can be learned within a few minutes.

A typical iontophoresis treatment lasts 15-20 minutes. A course consists of 12-14 treatments.

The device operates in both constant (DC) and pulsed (PC) modes. The continuous mode is primarily effective in joint treatments.

The more modern, pulsed technology is significantly more effective in treating abnormal sweating than the continuous mode.

Pulsed iontophoresis helps more than 90% of those suffering from abnormal sweating. A 2-3 week course provides 6-8 weeks of dry skin or at least reduced sweating. Sweating returns over time, requiring a new course.

  • Tap water evenly affects the entire problematic area. For example, if your palm sweats, it eliminates it across the entire palm, not just part of it.
  • A certain current strength is needed to stop sweating. If you do not feel the electrical treatment, it means you have set a low current and can expect minimal effect.
  • The success of the treatment partly depends on the applied strength. Higher current is more effective but may be uncomfortable.
  • The bearable current strength varies for everyone. You should set it according to your skin sensitivity. Set the highest current you can tolerate painlessly!
  • Your hands, feet, and underarms require different current strengths. Generally, hands and feet can tolerate higher currents than underarms.
  • The frequency of treatments depends on the severity of hyperhidrosis. In mild cases, treatment every other day is enough, while in severe cases, up to two treatments daily may be performed.
  • Treatments should be applied in courses. That is, treat intensively for 10-14 days, then after achieving a favorable effect, switch to "maintenance" with 1-2 treatments weekly for 2-3 months to maintain the good condition.
  • If heavy sweating restarts, begin a new intensive course.
  • After a few months, rely on your experience. Treat according to how your sweating decreases or returns.
  • Unfortunately, tap water iontophoresis does not cure the underlying disease but can suppress symptoms. Its main advantage is that you do not need to take or apply any chemicals.

Contraindications

You cannot use iontophoresis to treat hyperhidrosis if any of the following are present. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

  • You have a pacemaker
  • You have an ICD (implantable defibrillator)
  • You have heart problems (e.g., arrhythmia)
  • You have had epileptic seizures
  • Pregnancy or possibility of pregnancy
  • You have an intrauterine metal device (IUD)
  • Metal implants in or near the treatment area
  • Large skin injuries or lack of epithelium (if too large to cover with petroleum jelly)
  • Skin infection (erysipelas)
  • Polyneuropathy in the treated area
  • Malignant tumor in the treated area
  • Acute phlebitis and thrombosis

Possible side effects

Side effects of iontophoresis are almost exclusively mild and temporary, disappearing shortly after stopping treatment.

  • Irritation, redness (erythema), burning sensation, small blisters (vesiculation), and itching. If you experience this, reduce the intensity, and wait for symptoms to completely disappear before the next treatment.
  • "Prickling" sensations. You may feel mild pain at the start of treatment or after polarity changes. Reducing intensity will ease this (though treatment efficacy may lessen somewhat).
  • Increased sweating. After the first few treatments, sweating may seem to increase. Do not worry, it will normalize after a few treatments and then decrease.
  • Dry skin. Iontophoresis can dry the skin. Use moisturizing cream after treatments.
