Details

The motor point pen has two main uses.

1. It helps locate the precise site of the motor nerve ending on the muscle. This is the point where the motor nerve meets the muscle. Knowing this point is important because placing the electrode there achieves the most effective contraction and thus the most efficient muscle stimulation.

2. When treating small muscles—for example, in facial nerve palsy—it can replace one adhesive electrode, allowing you to move from muscle to muscle during treatment by continuously moving the motor point pen.

Using the motor point pen to determine the motor point

  • Connect the cable to the electrostimulator (for a Globus 4-channel device, use one of the colored cables).
  • Attach an adhesive electrode to the (–) cable end.
  • Place the electrode on the proximal end of the target muscle (closer to the body's midline).
  • Connect the (+) cable end to the motor point pen.
  • Select the "Motor Point Pen" program or, if unavailable, the "Warm-up" program.
  • Use conductive gel (e.g., ECG gel, ultrasound gel) to locate the motor point—for optimal signal transmission.
  • Increase the output intensity to 5–6 mA for the upper arm or 5–9 mA for the lower limb or trunk.
  • Touch the pen tip to where you suspect the motor nerve enters the muscle (usually the most prominent part of the muscle or the midpoint in elongated muscles).
  • Slowly move the pen tip across the skin (always keep the gel on the skin!).
  • The motor point is where you observe the strongest contractions.
  • Mark this spot.
  • Wipe off the gel, replace the motor point pen with an adhesive electrode on the (+) cable end, and place it on the marked point.
  • Start the treatment program.

The motor point pen is a universal accessory. It can be used with all our electrotherapy devices (excluding Nurosym and Dermadry devices).

It is also compatible with any other device featuring a standard PIN (2 mm pin) connector.
