Our mission to popularize modern technology
The mission of Élethosszig Egészségesen magazine is to introduce medical devices for home and clinic use as widely as possible and to demonstrate how to use them. Progress is extremely rapid; new solutions appear daily, so there is always something new to discover.
According to the latest data, more than 40% of the adult Hungarian population suffers from one or more chronic diseases, which makes everyday life difficult. Affected patients very often visit their general practitioners and are surprised that, apart from prescribing the monthly medication, the doctor can do nothing for them!
Hippocrates, regarded as the founder of medicine, already stated nearly two and a half thousand years ago that you are responsible for yourself and your lifestyle: “If you do not change your life, you cannot be helped!” he said. To physicians he advised: “Begin treatment when the patient has understood what he must do for his recovery!”
You must understand that if you have a chronic disease, the key to recovery is in your hands. If you do not take your medications, do not reduce your weight, and do not start exercising, you can only expect the drugs to mask the symptoms. Do not expect a “salvation” from the doctor or from medications—do something for yourself. Western societies recognized the importance of this years ago.
Home medical devices help you to carry out rehabilitation yourself after acute and generally short hospital treatments, and to keep a chronic condition balanced, improve it, or even eliminate it completely. These devices are developed so that you can use them safely without the presence of a physician. Of course, seek your doctor’s guidance and follow their recommendations, but they cannot perform the treatment for you!
The idea of Élethosszig Egészségesen® magazine took shape years ago
At that time, as a medical technology consultant I visited every hospital in the country, attended hundreds of general and private physician practices, and I found that a large portion of doctors know little or almost nothing about the devices intended for patients for the post-hospital period. If they are not familiar with these devices, how could they advise their patients?
You can also find many “patient information” sites on the internet that do not provide substantive help. They present diseases with almost textbook thoroughness. In technical jargon they describe every possible cause, complication, and medical treatment of a condition with the utmost care. They place special emphasis on drug therapy, since most of their advertisers are drug distributors.
None of these provide practical suggestions about what you could do at home or which technological device might support your recovery, let alone how you should use them.
It is no coincidence that you may have no idea that there are simple and effective solutions to many problems.
Within www.elethosszig.hu I try to present these possibilities to you in an easy-to-understand way. Since it is very likely that several people in your family and immediate environment suffer from chronic diseases, it is worth following me. Read my articles and share them with others—you can help!
