Afraid of labour pain? Want to ease it without drugs? The Perfect Mama+ obstetric TENS device activates your body's own pain-relief system – safely for you and your baby Why choose the Perfect Mama+? Drug-free pain relief No need for medication – TENS electrical pulses can support endorphin release and block pain signals. There are no side effects for you or your baby. Contraction timer No need to count contractions in your head. The built-in contraction timer helps you track labour progress, while the BOOST button instantly increases pain relief. Move freely Compact, portable device with a neck strap and removable belt clip. You can walk, squat or sit on a birthing ball – you won't be confined to the bed, which can help the baby move down. Useful after birth too Not a "single-use" device. After birth you can use it to ease uterine contractions, perineal pain after episiotomy, support milk production with the breast electrodes, and relieve menstrual cramps – useful for years to come. Who is it for? Worried about labour pain but don’t want to start with an epidural? ▼ Sound familiar? You may have been wondering for months how you'll cope with labour pain. Epidurals are effective but can have side effects – and you may prefer to try a more natural method first. The Perfect Mama+ was developed for exactly this. Research suggests obstetric TENS devices can help reduce labour pain while being completely safe for mother and baby. The low-frequency burst mode can support endorphin release, and the BOOST button provides extra pain relief at the peak of contractions. Use it from the early stage of labour – the earlier you start, the more your body's own pain-relief system can build up. Are you in pain after a C-section or episiotomy? ▼ The postpartum period can bring uterine involution pain, discomfort after an episiotomy, or pain following a cesarean section – all while you need to care for your baby. The Perfect Mama+ can also help relieve postpartum pain. Studies indicate TENS can effectively reduce pain after episiotomy without medication – an important consideration while breastfeeding. Simply place the electrodes near the painful area and select the appropriate program. Do menstrual cramps make your monthly life difficult? ▼ The same cycle every month: cramps, back pain, painkillers. Research shows TENS therapy can effectively help reduce menstrual pain without medication. The Perfect Mama+ isn't only for childbirth: you can use it to ease menstrual cramps too. That means you don't have to tuck it away after birth – it can be a helpful companion for years. Is milk production slow to start after birth? ▼ Many mothers struggle in the days after birth with insufficient milk supply just when breastfeeding is most important. This is especially common after stress, cesarean delivery or preterm birth. With the included breast electrodes, the Perfect Mama+ can support the start of lactation. The device stimulates the sensory nerves of the breast, mimicking the baby's sucking reflex – delivering over 100 pulses per minute. This stimulation can encourage increased prolactin (the hormone responsible for milk production) release. The supplied special breast electrodes (E-CMR60130) should be placed on each side of the breast, 1–2 cm from the areola. The manufacturer recommends 15 minutes of use every 2 hours – even under clothing, discreetly. Important: TENS does not replace breastfeeding or pumping – it can be used as complementary stimulation, for example at night or between pumping sessions. Consult your midwife or doctor if you have questions! How to use it? It's that simple: 1 Apply the electrodes Place the four adhesive electrodes on your back according to the included guide. Place the two upper pairs under the shoulder blades and the lower pair at waist level. 2 Select the program The device has 3 pre-set obstetric programs – tailored for the early, active and transitional phases of labour. Press the appropriate button. 3 Set the intensity Start at low intensity and gradually increase until you feel a pleasant tingling. Choose from 60 intensity levels to find the right setting for you. 4 Use the BOOST button during contractions When a contraction comes, press the side BOOST button – this instantly increases the intensity for the duration of the contraction, then returns to the base level. Lactation support – with breast electrodes: 1 Place the breast electrodes Place one pair of electrodes on each breast, 1–2 cm from the areola, opposite each other on either side of the nipple. For each breast use both connectors of the same channel (red and black). 2 Select the “A” program The “A” program is designed for lactation support with the breast electrodes. The device stimulates the breast sensory nerves at 80–150 Hz, delivering over 100 pulses per minute – imitating the baby's sucking stimulus. 3 Adjust the intensity Gradually increase the intensity until you feel a mild, pleasant tingling. The aim is gentle stimulation of the subcutaneous sensory nerves – it should not be uncomfortable! You can choose from 50 intensity levels. 4 Use regularly for 15 minutes Manufacturer recommendation: 15-minute sessions every 2 hours. Prolactin release occurs in pulses over 15–20 minutes – longer application does not produce additional hormone release. Once milk production has started, TENS can be used as supplementary stimulation alongside breastfeeding and pumping. How can TENS help reduce labour pain? An obstetric TENS device sends mild electrical pulses through the skin to nerve endings in the back. This can help reduce pain in two ways: 1. Supporting endorphin production: Low-frequency (burst) pulses can stimulate the brain to increase production of endorphins – the body's natural pain-relief chemicals. This is why it's recommended to start TENS in the early stages of labour: building endorphin levels takes time. 2. Gate-control theory: High-frequency pulses can help "close the pain gate": they block pain signals before they reach the brain. You don't feel the pain because the signal doesn't get through. Obstetric TENS devices – unlike conventional TENS units – have programs specifically adapted to the wave-like pain of labour. The Perfect Mama+ BOOST button lets you instantly increase pulse strength at the peak of a contraction, then return to the baseline during the break. How can TENS support lactation? The key to initiating breastmilk production is the hormone prolactin. Prolactin release is triggered by stimulation of the sensory nerves around the nipple – under natural conditions this is achieved by the baby's suckling. The Perfect Mama+ breast electrodes mimic this sensory nerve stimulation: the skin-delivered, gentle electrical pulses (over 100 per minute) send signals to the brain similar to a baby's suckling. This can encourage the body to increase prolactin production, supporting development and activation of milk-producing tissue in the breast. This method can be especially useful if the baby cannot suck effectively yet (e.g. preterm birth), or when supplementary stimulation is needed between breastfeeding and pumping sessions – even worn discreetly under clothing. What's in the package? 1 x Perfect Mama+ device 1 pair AA batteries 1 x neck strap 1 x removable belt clip 1 pack obstetric electrodes (4 x 50×100 mm, integrated cable) 1 pack breast electrodes (2 pairs, 60×130 mm, round – for lactation support) 1 x storage pouch 1 x user manual Features of the obstetric electrodes ▼ The Perfect Mama+ obstetric electrodes measure 50×100 mm and have integrated cables. This design is the most hygienic solution since you don't need to attach separate leads. The larger electrodes provide broader nerve coverage, which can improve effectiveness for labour pain relief. The electrodes are adhesive and single-use. Replace them if you want to use the device for another birth or purpose. Breast electrodes: features and use ▼ The package contains 2 pairs of round breast electrodes (E-CMR60130, 60×130 mm) specifically designed to support lactation. Place the electrodes 1–2 cm from the areola, on either side of the nipple – one pair per breast. Important: connect both electrodes of each breast to the red and black connectors of the same channel – do not mix channels between breasts! This ensures the current flows within the given breast. You should feel a mild, pleasant tingling during stimulation. The electrodes are adhesive. After use, reattach them to the protective foil and store in a cool, dry place to preserve stickiness. Maintenance and electrode replacement ▼ The device is powered by AA batteries – battery replacement is quick and easy. Adhesive electrodes are consumables: their stickiness decreases over time. After use always place electrodes back on the plastic backing and store in a cool place. For labour always use fresh, unopened electrodes for best adhesion. Frequently asked questions When should I start using the TENS device during labour? It is recommended to start TENS in the early stage of labour, when contractions become regular. The earlier you start, the more you can build up endorphin levels, which are the basis of natural pain relief. The device can be used safely from the 37th week of pregnancy. Can I use the TENS device together with other pain relief methods? Yes. Obstetric TENS can be combined with other pain relief methods. You can use it before water birth, alongside breathing techniques, and even before requesting an epidural. The effects of TENS can add to those of other methods. Is the TENS device safe for the baby? Yes. Obstetric TENS devices are designed to be completely safe for both mother and baby. Electrodes are placed on the back and the electrical pulses act only on the skin surface. There are no known fetal side effects from TENS. What can the Perfect Mama+ be used for after birth? After birth the Perfect Mama+ can help in three areas: (1) reducing pain from uterine contractions, discomfort after episiotomy and general postpartum pain – without medication, which is important while breastfeeding; (2) supporting initiation of lactation with the included special breast electrodes that stimulate the breast sensory nerves and can encourage prolactin production; (3) later, easing menstrual cramps. Thus the device is useful not only for the day of birth but throughout the postpartum period and beyond. How should I use the breast electrodes to support lactation? Place one pair of electrodes on each breast: 1–2 cm from the areola, opposite each other on either side of the nipple. For each breast use both connectors (red and black) of the same TENS channel – do not mix channels! Select the “A” program and gradually increase intensity until you feel a mild tingling. Use for 15 minutes every 2 hours. TENS is a supplemental stimulation and does not replace breastfeeding or pumping. Once milk production has started, use it between regular breastfeeding/pumping sessions, for example at night or if you cannot pump. Consult your midwife or doctor if in doubt. Can Perfect Mama+ be used for back pain during pregnancy? The obstetric program may be used from the 37th week of pregnancy. For general pain relief during pregnancy (e.g. back pain) electrodes must not be placed on or near the abdomen. Consult your physician about use on the back. Who should NOT use the device? Use is contraindicated for people with pacemakers, in epilepsy, on damaged or inflamed skin, and for obstetric program use before the 37th week of pregnancy. Do not place electrodes on the abdomen or near the heart. Consult your physician if in doubt.
