What is therapeutic ultrasound and what is it used for?
Therapeutic ultrasound is a proven physiotherapy method that has been used in rehabilitation for decades. How does it work?
An ultrasound device converts an electrical signal into mechanical vibration using a piezoelectric crystal. These vibrations penetrate tissues through the skin, where they:
- produce a mild warming effect,
- can stimulate local blood circulation,
- exert a micro-massage effect on tissue cells,
- contribute to the relaxation of tense muscles.

Important information for use
- Always use ultrasound gel – without gel the treatment is ineffective (air absorbs the sound).
- Continuously move the treatment head – never hold it in one place.
- Start at a low intensity and increase gradually.
- Treat an area for a maximum of 10 minutes.

When NOT to use it?
Therapeutic ultrasound has contraindications. Do not use the device in the following cases, or only with medical approval:
- Near an implanted pacemaker or other electronic device
- Active thrombosis (blood clots)
- Cancerous area
- On the abdomen and pelvic area during pregnancy
- Over an open wound or infection
