The device creates oscillating (vibrating) positive expiratory pressure (OPEP) in the airways. Air exhaled through the device with slight forced expiration activates a valve inside, producing vibration within the airways. The resistance from the device opens up the airways. WHAT CAUSES MUCUS BUILDUP IN THE LUNGS?

Several processes combine to increase mucus production and hinder its clearance. USING THE AEROBIKA OPEP

• If COPD symptoms worsen, use the device 2-3 times daily for 10 minutes each.

HOW TO USE THE DEVICE

• Set the resistance control to the lowest setting (toward the minus sign)
• Sit down and place the mouthpiece in your mouth
• Breathe in normally through the device's funnel
• Exhale more forcefully through the funnel (like blowing up a balloon)
• Exhale slowly and at a steady speed; exhalation should last longer than inhalation
• Repeat breathing through the device for 10 minutes; cough as needed to help clear airways
• You will feel chest vibrations during exhalation—that's the therapeutic effect
• The stronger the vibration, the more effective the airway clearance
• Do not start with the highest resistance! Forced exhalation through the device may cause fatigue and worsen breathlessness
• Begin with the lowest setting; if able to complete 10 minutes without increased shortness of breath, increase resistance slightly next time
• Find the resistance that gives clear chest vibration without worsening symptoms over 10 minutes
• This ensures the most effective treatment!

USEFUL TIPS FOR AEROBIKA OPEP

• Exhale actively
• Active exhalation means blowing out as you would when extinguishing a candle or inflating a balloon
• Stronger exhalation causes stronger vibrations, more effective airway clearance — but very ill patients may tire from forced breathing
• Keep cheeks relaxed and flat during exhalation, do not puff them out

• The user manual includes detailed cleaning instructions.
• Since airway mucus contains pathogens, the device becomes contaminated during use.
• Therefore, clean the device after each use.
