The Dolito is a modern, portable electric nerve stimulator device designed primarily for pain relief and muscle stimulation. Manufactured by the German MTR+ Vertriebs GmbH, this medical device holds CE certification and complies with the strict European medical device regulations. With proper use, the device has an expected lifespan of 10 years.
The Dolito operates on the principle of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), a scientifically proven pain relief therapeutic method.
The electrical impulses generated by the device are delivered to the nerve fibers via electrodes placed on the skin.
The pain relief effect is based on two main mechanisms. One is the gate control theory, where electrical impulses block pain signal transmission to the brain. The other is stimulation of beta-endorphin release—the body's natural pain-relieving compounds which have morphine-like effects without the side effects of morphine.

The device is excellently suited for pain relief of various origins.
It can be especially effective for treating neck, thoracic, and lumbar spine pain. It can also be successfully used for arthritis, circulatory problems, nerve pain (neuralgia), neuropathic, and muscle pain.
It can further help in alleviating phantom pain, post-fracture pain, and pelvic floor muscle pain.
The built-in 5th program is specifically designed for strengthening weakened but intact muscles in a special work/rest rhythm.
The Dolito can be used in three different TENS modes.
TENS is a safe treatment method free of side effects. There are very few conditions considered contraindications.
TENS device use is not recommended in the following cases:
Pacemaker or other implanted electrical device: Electrical signals from TENS devices can interfere with older types of pacemakers or other electrical devices if used near them.
During pregnancy: Especially in the first trimester, TENS use should be avoided on the abdomen, waist, and lower back, as electrical stimulation may harm the fetus.
Patients with epilepsy: Electrical impulses applied to the head-neck region may trigger seizures in epileptics.
Malignant tumors: The use of TENS has a dual assessment. Many do not recommend use directly over or near tumors, while others suggest it for tumor-related pain to reduce medication needs.
Fresh injuries, skin lesions, open wounds: Electrodes must not be placed on open wounds or inflamed skin areas as it can cause further irritation and hinder healing.
Other conditions are not exclusion criteria but require weighing benefits and risks by the treating physician.
The device has 5 pre-programmed and one freely programmable treatment program.
Programs 1-4 include different pain relief protocols; program 5 is for muscle strengthening.
The programmable 6th program allows perfect adaptation to individual needs.
Treatment duration (1-599 minutes), stimulation mode, frequency (1-150 Hz), and pulse width (50-350 μs) can be set.
Treatment effectiveness largely depends on correct electrode placement.
Self-adhesive electrodes should be placed on clean, healthy skin. The distance between electrodes shouldn't exceed 20 cm. In cases of thick hair, the area should be shaved.
Electrodes need regular replacement when adhesive properties decline.
Before starting, check battery charge and electrode connections.
After selecting the desired program, gradually increase intensity with the "+" button until a strong but comfortable sensation is felt.
The device has a built-in safety feature: after one minute, intensity increase locks and can be unlocked by pressing three buttons. If the circuit breaks (e.g., electrode falls off), stimulation stops automatically.
The device is practically maintenance-free but needs regular cleaning. Clean with a mild detergent damp cloth (Clinell device disinfectant wipe). The device is not waterproof and should be protected from moisture. Disinfect before transferring to another patient.
The Dolito has built-in memory recording treatment data. It stores up to 60 days of data with 5 daily treatments, allowing doctors or therapists to monitor and evaluate the therapy.
The device can be locked to a specific program, ensuring the patient uses only the prescribed treatment.
The Dolito’s biggest advantage is its suitability for home use as an easy-to-handle pain relief device, effectively alleviating various pain types without medications.
However, it is important to know that it is not effective for all pain types, and there are conditions (e.g., headaches) where it should not be used. Always consult a doctor or physiotherapist before starting treatment for optimal application.
Overall, the Dolito is a versatile, reliable, and safe electrical stimulation device that, with proper use, effectively aids pain relief and muscle regeneration. Its built-in safety functions and detailed user manual support correct use, but strict adherence to contraindications and precautions is essential.
