Asthma — medically known as asthma bronchiale

Asthma (asthma bronchiale) is a chronic lung disease in which the bronchial mucosa swells and becomes inflamed, the smooth muscles in the walls contract spasmodically, and as a result the airways narrow. This makes breathing difficult.

If allergic or asthmatic conditions occur in your family, you may be more predisposed to asthma than others. However, it is not "guaranteed" that you will develop it, even if your parents have asthma.

If you have asthma, your airways are almost continuously inflamed. Sometimes the symptoms are tolerable, then they intensify in attacks.

An asthma attack is usually triggered by some external factor.

  • Allergic asthma is triggered by allergens such as pet hair, dust, mites, or pollens.
  • Non-allergic types of asthma are most often caused by smoke, air pollution, cold air, strenuous exercise, or changes in the weather.

Development of asthma and changes in the airways

Although asthma is considered a chronic condition, with treatment you can prevent repeated attacks, stop deterioration, and improve your quality of life.

Asthma treatment

The most common form of treatment is a doctor-prescribed medication, usually containing steroids.

Most often you receive it in an inhaler; by "inhaling" it, the active ingredients reach exactly where they are needed — the airways.

Because asthma is a chronic condition, the medications used for treatment over the years can produce side effects.

Natural therapy for asthma

There are few alternative and at-home treatment options. One of these is salt air therapy, which is free of side effects and can effectively help prevent and reduce asthma complaints.

If you have been to the seaside, you may have experienced that the bothersome symptoms you have at home gradually ease and disappear at the shore. You don't do anything special there — you just breathe in the salty sea air.

Salt air can help prevent asthma attacks and can also complement medical treatment for asthma.

Microscopic salt particles (smaller than 5 microns) are carried into your lungs with the air. They adhere to the mucous membranes of the airways, neutralize allergens, dissolve mucus, and reduce inflammation. Salt air strengthens your "airway immune system." Attacks noticeably become less frequent.

The longer you stay in the salt aerosol, the stronger the effect. You can produce such a salt aerosol with the SaltDome salt therapy device.
