Magnum Insomnia offers a different approach: you do not need to set aside separate time for the treatment, because it takes place while you sleep. You lie down on the mattress fitted with magnetic coils, start the programme – and then follow your usual night-time routine.
Who is Magnum Insomnia intended for?
You go to bed tired, but your thoughts keep racing, and half an hour or even an hour passes before you fall asleep. Two programmes are designed for this situation: Deep Sleep, which the manufacturer recommends starting 30 minutes before going to bed, and Calm Mind, designed to ease mental hyperactivity with 45-minute treatments.
You fall asleep but wake every two or three hours, and in the morning you feel that you have not rested at all. The night programmes (15 Hz, 50 Hz and 75 Hz) are designed to run for 8 hours and operate throughout the entire sleep period – you do not need to touch the device during the night.
The manufacturer specifically also intends the device to support recovery after intense physical or mental exertion. The available programmes are Energising Sleep (for the night before a competition or demanding training session), Grounding (at the end of an intensive day, with a 1-hour programme) and Vitality (during the day, up to three times daily).
If your work schedule or crossing time zones disrupts your sleep–wake cycle, the Reset Circadian Rhythm programme is designed for this situation. It operates with changing frequency during treatment and is recommended in courses of 5–7 consecutive days. The device weighs 280 grams and comes with a carrying case, so it can be taken when travelling – the mattress is 180 × 70 cm, making the complete package larger.
As we age, sleep typically becomes lighter and more fragmented. Magnetotherapy contains no active pharmaceutical ingredient, and according to the manufacturer’s experience, no side effects have been reported when used as recommended. This may be relevant for people looking for a complementary option instead of, or alongside, medicines. Change existing medication only after discussing it with your treating doctor.
How does the magnetic field affect sleep?
Magnetotherapy is a physical therapy procedure that uses low-frequency, low-intensity pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF). Electric current passing through the 10 coils built into the mattress creates a time-varying magnetic field. This field reaches the tissues through clothing, blankets, dressings and plaster casts, because these materials have little effect on the magnetic field.
The systems involved in regulating sleep work through delicate electrochemical balances: bioelectric signals and neurotransmitters work together to maintain the circadian rhythm. In sleep disorders, this balance is often disturbed and the body remains in a state of heightened alertness, which prevents continuous, deep sleep from developing.
The device aims to influence these regulatory processes gently. The purpose of the modulation is to support relaxation, reduce psychophysical hypersensitivity and help organise sleep cycles.
This is not a new concept. The effect of low-frequency magnetic fields on sleep has also been investigated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving people with insomnia. The treated group reported meaningful improvements in time taken to fall asleep, night-time awakenings and morning fatigue, and no side effects were reported during the study. Research also confirms that responses vary from person to person. This is why it is important to complete the course rather than judge the effect after only a few nights.
The programmes use three parameters of the magnetic field: frequency (5–75 Hz) is the number of pulses per second; field strength is measured in Gauss (up to a total average of 100 Gauss over the entire mattress surface); and the duty cycle (5–50%) determines the length of the pulses. For example, the manufacturer designed the Deep Sleep programme to support natural melatonin production, while the Calm Mind programme is aimed towards alpha and theta brain waves.
It is important to set realistic expectations: you do not feel anything during the treatment. The magnetic field does not vibrate or noticeably heat the body. At most, you may feel slight warmth. If you feel nothing, this is not a fault of the device but a characteristic of the method. The Magnum test included in the package can be used for checking.
How do you use it? – 6 steps

Prepare the bed
Place the 180 × 70 cm Total Body Mat mattress on the bed and cover it with a sheet. A sheet is recommended for hygiene reasons and does not affect the treatment.

Connect it before switching on
Insert the two mattress plugs into the sockets on top of the device. Do this carefully so that the 8 connector pins are not bent. The order matters: connect the mattress first and only then switch on the device. Otherwise, the Gauss value cannot be set. The device operates from a mains power supply and does not contain a battery.

Select the programme
On the main screen, use the P+ and P– buttons to move through the Programme List menu and press OK to select. The display then shows the programme name, the channels in use, the total duration and the Gauss value. If you want to use only one half of the mattress, connect the plug to the appropriate socket.

Adjust the parameters if necessary
The programmes are factory-set, so adjustment is not required. The fn button can be used to change the Gauss value (up to 100 G) and duration (up to 9 hours 59 minutes); the frequency and duty cycle cannot be changed. In the case of a plaster cast, the manufacturer recommends a field strength 20–30 Gauss higher.

Start the programme and go to bed
Press OK to start the programme. You can lie on it while wearing clothes. In fact, the manufacturer recommends having one layer of fabric, at least a sheet, between the skin and the mattress. The programme ends automatically when the set time has elapsed, and the device switches off after 2–9 minutes of inactivity, as set in the Settings menu.

Complete the course
The manufacturer recommends the Deep Sleep programme as an initial course lasting at least 3 weeks and covering every night. After this, you can either continue or take a 2-week break and then start again. For the Calm Mind and Reset Circadian Rhythm programmes, cycles of 5–7 consecutive days are recommended. The device stores the last ten completed programmes, so your own settings can be restarted in one step.
Frequently asked questions about Magnum Insomnia
The device must not be used with a pacemaker, an implanted spinal cord stimulator or any permanent electrical stimulation. This is an absolute contraindication. It must also not be used over a ferromagnetic metal prosthesis (screw, pin or plate) or a magnetisable implant. According to the manufacturer, it may be used with a non-ferromagnetic prosthesis, but discuss this with your treating doctor beforehand.
No. Sleep apnoea is a breathing-related condition that requires separate assessment and targeted treatment. Magnetotherapy does not provide a solution for it. If you snore, your partner notices pauses in breathing, or you have morning headaches and daytime sleepiness, a sleep study is the right step before ordering the device. The manufacturer intends the device for informed users aged 18 or over, and does not recommend using the therapy below the age of 15. It is also not recommended during pregnancy, or with an intrauterine device or an electrical or acoustic (hearing) device. In the case of cancer, the opinion of the treating doctor or oncologist is required before starting magnetotherapy.
Yes, this is normal. The magnetic field does not vibrate or produce a noticeable impulse. At most, you may feel slight warmth. The Magnum test included in the package checks whether the device is working: start a programme, set the field strength to maximum and place the small box on one of the coils in the mattress. If you feel a vibration, the mattress is working. If not, please contact us.
According to research and the manufacturer’s protocols, the effect of treatment with a magnetic field becomes assessable with longer, continuous use. This is why the Deep Sleep programme recommends a daily course lasting at least 3 weeks. Individual responses differ: some people notice a change sooner, while others do not notice one even after the complete course. It is worth keeping a simple sleep diary, because it is difficult to remember afterwards how long you were awake two weeks earlier.
No. The display menu can be set to Italian, English, Spanish, French, German or Portuguese. A Hungarian user manual is available, however, and it contains the programme list, treatment times and Gauss values. Daily use requires only a few button presses, so the menu language rarely causes a practical problem.

Yes. Plaster does not affect the emission of the magnetic field. This is one practical advantage of magnetotherapy. In this situation, the manufacturer recommends a field strength 20–30 Gauss higher. However, there must not be any ferromagnetic metal fixation under the plaster, as this is a contraindication.
Other members of the Magnum family, such as Magnum L or Magnum 2500, treat individual body areas with an applicator or solenoid belt, typically for joint and bone problems. Magnum Insomnia, by contrast, provides a 180 × 70 cm full-body mattress with 10 coils and a set of programmes specifically designed for sleep and recovery. The devices are not alternatives to one another; their intended purposes are different.
Only your treating doctor can make that decision. Stopping many medicines used for sleep requires gradual reduction, and stopping suddenly may lead to rebound insomnia. Magnum Insomnia is a complementary option for supporting sleep regulation. It does not replace medication or cognitive behavioural therapy. Switch off the device and unplug it before cleaning. Do not use thinner, petrol, alcohol or chemicals. The mattress may only be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. It must not be washed or put in a washing machine, so covering it with a sheet is recommended.
The manufacturer estimates the product’s service life at 5 years and recommends sending it to the manufacturer or an authorised service centre for maintenance and a safety check every 2 years. Repairs may only be carried out by a specialist. Using non-original accessories or spare parts invalidates the warranty.
The manufacturer provides the original purchaser with a 24-month warranty against material and manufacturing defects (12 months in the case of professional or commercial use). The warranty period for wear-prone components, including the mains power supply and mattress, is 6 months. Proof of purchase is required to make a warranty claim.

When must you NOT use the device?
Absolute contraindications – the device must not be used in these cases:
- Pacemaker or other permanent electrical stimulation, such as an implanted spinal cord stimulator
- Ferromagnetic metal prosthesis (screw, pin or plate) or magnetisable implant in the treatment area
Relative contraindications – treatment is not recommended in these cases, or may be used only after obtaining the treating doctor’s opinion:
- Cardiac arrhythmia
- Dermatitis or fungal infection
- Bleeding tendency or haemorrhagic disorder
- Severe ischaemic condition caused by circulatory insufficiency
- Period of particularly heavy menstrual bleeding
- Pregnancy
- Use of an electrical or acoustic (hearing) device, or an intrauterine device (IUD)
- Concurrent use with TENS treatment or Holter monitoring
- Age under 15 years
- Direct treatment of vital organs (ovaries, heart, head)
- Fever

Magnum Insomnia is a non-invasive magnetotherapy device intended for home use. The manufacturer intends it to support better sleep and physical recovery after major exertion or sports activity. The device bears the CE mark and complies with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety and Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS). The device does not replace assessment of a sleep disorder, diagnosis or treatment recommended by a doctor, and it is not suitable for treating sleep apnoea or other breathing-related sleep disorders.
