A magnetic therapy device is a medical physiotherapy instrument used worldwide to treat musculoskeletal disorders.
For therapeutic applications, devices are used that generate a pulsed magnetic field with the help of coils. Treatments use medium magnetic intensities (100 Gauss - 10,000 Gauss). Home devices typically provide an intensity of 100–500 Gauss.
Biological effects of magnetic therapy
- has pain-relieving effects (increases the production of endogenous opioids – the body's own pain-relieving substances)
- reduces inflammation of joints and surrounding tissues
- enhances cell membrane permeability, thereby aiding cellular metabolism and waste elimination
- promotes the elimination of edema and fluid accumulations
- improves microcirculation and lymphatic circulation
- has a biostimulatory effect, enhancing cellular processes and protein synthesis, thus accelerating healing
- normalizes the cell membrane potential (the electrical potential of damaged cell membranes is disrupted, leading to loss of cellular function)
- increases cellular energy production
- stimulates the activity of osteogenic cells, bone formation, and calcium deposition in bone
- stimulates the immune system, enhancing the body's resistance
- supports the body's self-healing processes, speeding up disease recovery and regeneration
- reduces muscle stiffness
- improves nerve cell conductivity
- supports nerve cell regeneration
- promotes epithelial and connective tissue production, thus aiding wound healing
Applications of magnetic therapy
- osteoporosis
- promotes healing of bone cracks and fractures (effective even through casts)
- stabilization of loosened prostheses
- promotes integration after prosthesis implantation
- relieves joint pain
- treatment of arthritis
- tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, bursitis, tendonitis, Achilles tendon pain
- treatment of leg ulcers, pressure sores, and burns
- sensory and circulatory disorders caused by diabetes
- trigeminal neuralgia
- relaxation of spastic (rigid) muscles, post-stroke rehabilitation
- treatment of sleep disorders
- Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis
- treatment of sports injuries, reduction of hematomas
- supporting surgical wound healing
- immune system strengthening
- etc.
How to choose among Magnum magnetic therapy device models?
The main differences between the devices are the number of therapy channels, the magnetic field intensity, and the number of treatment programs.
Number of therapy channels
The Magnum L device supports only a single magnetic therapy applicator, so consider purchasing it if, for example, you want to stimulate the healing of a fracture in one wrist or elbow.
The Magnum XL, 2500, XL Pro, and 3000 Pro devices operate two channels simultaneously. With the 3000 Pro, you can run different programs on each channel (e.g., a bone fracture program on one output and an arthritis program on the other). This is useful if you are treating two patients at once or if your partner also has musculoskeletal issues. With the Magnum XL, 2500, and XL Pro, you can also use two applicators simultaneously, but only with the same program. For instance, if you have inflammation in both knees, you can treat them at the same time.
The Magnum 3500 Pro is a four-channel device, allowing treatments on up to four channels simultaneously. In 2+2 mode, different programs can be set on outputs 1-2 and 3-4, meaning you can treat two patients at once or operate two full-body mats simultaneously.
Magnetic intensity
As mentioned above, intensities below 100 Gauss are used for biostimulation and regeneration support, while those between 100–1000 Gauss are used for therapeutic treatments. Consequently, higher intensity yields stronger therapeutic effects. The greater the magnetic field intensity of a device, the higher its price. You need to find a compromise that suits both your condition and your budget.
A lower magnetic intensity does not mean the device is ineffective! With a lower-intensity device, more treatment sessions are required to achieve improvement and healing. It’s like driving a car: if you go slower, it takes more time to reach your destination. But you will get there.
Number of treatment programs
The more expensive a device is, the more pre-set treatment programs it includes. Treatment programs are developed based on medical experience and guidelines. Different frequency, intensity, and treatment time are required for a minor inflammation (e.g., a wrist tendon) than for an Achilles tendon or a femoral neck fracture or osteoporosis.
If a device has few programs, these allow only “general” treatments, such as general fracture. In more expensive devices, this is divided into multiple, more precise programs, meaning specialized programs are available for fractures of the wrist, upper arm, shin, or femur, etc.
You don’t necessarily need the device with the most programs! You need the one that suits your current needs. This might even be the Magnum L. The Magnum XL and XL Pro also offer rehabilitation and beauty-wellness programs. The Magnum 2500, 3000 Pro, and 3500 Pro are suitable not only for home use but also for physiotherapy clinic treatments.
