The Flex-Ion devices are designed to restore strength, flexibility and coordination in the fingers, hand and forearm muscles.
They can be used at home or by a physiotherapist, movement therapist or rehab specialist.
Resistance is indicated by different colors:
Start with a lighter resistance and move to higher levels as your strength improves.
Use Flex-Ion when muscle strength, range of motion or coordination have declined—often after stroke, spinal injury or surgery, but also following accidents, sports injuries or immobilization in a cast. For proper rehabilitation and to regain original function, consult a professional (physiotherapist, movement therapist, etc.). They will prescribe exercises and help you choose the correct resistance. Beginning too strong may worsen symptoms due to overexertion.
Hold Flex-Ion so your fingertips rest on the buttons and your thumb locks against the device. Bend all fingers at once as if making a fist, pressing the keys. Perform slow, controlled movements: hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 10–15 times.
Hold Flex-Ion so your fingers reach your opposing thumb. Squeeze all fingers together, pressing every key. Hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 10–15 times.
Place your index finger on one key and your thumb opposite it. Bend both to press the key, hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 10–15 times. Switch to each finger in turn.
Hold Flex-Ion with your fingertips on the buttons and thumb opposite. Bend all fingers together, pressing the keys. Hold, then release. Repeat 10–15 times.
Hold the device with the index finger underneath and thumb on the first key. Pinch the key with your thumb.
Grip the device and place your index finger on the second key. Press as if pulling a trigger.
These are just examples! A therapist can teach many more movements tailored to your needs.
