The Flex-Ion devices are designed to restore strength, flexibility, and coordination of the fingers, hand, and forearm muscles.
The device can be used at home or by physiotherapists, movement therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals.
Resistance levels are indicated by different colors.
Generally a lower resistance device is needed at the start of rehabilitation, and as strength is regained you can move to higher resistance levels.
The Flex-Ion should be used in conditions where muscle strength, mobility, or coordination has declined, such as after stroke, spinal injury, or surgery. It can also result from immobilization following an accident, sports injury, or fracture.
To regain original abilities, seek professional help from a physiotherapist or movement therapist. They will guide you on exercises to restore lost function and determine which resistance level to choose. Start with the weakest and upgrade gradually. Using a device that is too strong may worsen symptoms due to overexertion.
Hold the Flex-Ion so your fingertips rest on the buttons and your thumb locks onto the device. Bend your fingers together as if making a fist, pressing the buttons down. Perform with slow, comfortable movements. Hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 10–15 times.
Hold the device so your fingers meet your thumb. Squeeze while pressing all the buttons. Hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 10–15 times.
Place your index finger on one button and your thumb opposite. Bend both together, pressing the button. Perform with slow, comfortable movement. Hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 10–15 times. Then move to the middle finger and repeat. Continue with all fingers.
Hold the device so your fingertips are on the buttons opposite your thumb. Bend your fingers together, pressing the buttons down. Perform slowly and comfortably. Hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 10–15 times.
Hold the device with your index finger below and your thumb on the first button. Press the first button with your thumb.
Hold the device in your fist with your index finger on the second button. Press the second button as if pulling a trigger.
These are just a few examples! Many other movements can be performed with the device, which your therapist can help you learn.
