Myolito TENS/EMS/FES Device 2-Channels

The Myolito is a modern, multifunctional electrical stimulation device developed by the German MTR+ for various muscle and nerve stimulation treatments. The device has medical CE certification and complies with strict European medical device regulations.

The Myolito has two independent channels allowing simultaneous treatment of two different areas (with the same treatment program).

Operating principle and mechanism of action

The Myolito uses low-frequency electrical impulses to stimulate muscles and nerves. It emits symmetrical, biphasic square impulses with adjustable frequency from 1 to 150 Hz and pulse width of 50 to 450 microseconds.

During electrical stimulation, the impulses emitted by the device reach the skin surface through electrodes, stimulating the underlying nerve and muscle fibers.

This results in various therapeutic effects such as pain relief, muscle strengthening, or incontinence treatment.

Applications

The Myolito is versatile for treating different health issues.

One main application is pain relief, where the device assists in endorphin release and works based on the pain gate theory. It is effectively used for neck, back, lumbar pain, arthrosis, sports injuries, circulatory disorders, nerve pain, and muscle pain treatment.

Muscle stimulation programs help prevent or delay muscle atrophy, strengthen weakened muscles, improve muscle blood flow and endurance. The device is particularly useful in post-surgical rehabilitation or after prolonged immobilization to restore muscle functions.

Another application is incontinence treatment. The Myolito offers various programs for both stress and urge incontinence treatment. Targeted stimulation of pelvic floor muscles significantly improves continence and quality of life.

Usage and handling

The Myolito is simple and user-friendly.

The device operates on a 9-volt battery and is compact for easy portability.

The LCD display provides clear information about the selected program and treatment parameters.

There are 11 pre-programmed and one freely configurable program.

Before treatment, proper electrode placement is important.

Self-adhesive electrodes are included, to be placed on the target area. An optimal distance of 20 cm between electrodes should be maintained.

Stimulation intensity is adjustable from 0 to 80 mA and should always be set to a level that is pleasant, not uncomfortable or painful.

The device has built-in safety functions. If the circuit is interrupted, e.g., an electrode detachment, stimulation stops immediately. After one minute of use, intensity increase is locked to prevent accidental changes.

Intensity automatically decreases at phase changes and must be reset to desired level.

Therapeutic programs

The Myolito offers various stimulation modes: continuous (CONT), burst (BURST), modulated (MOD), and work/rest (WORK/REST) modes.

Continuous mode provides steady frequency and pulse width stimulation. Burst mode delivers pulses in groups. Modulated mode automatically varies parameters within a set range. Work/rest cycles alternate active stimulation and rest phases.

Programs 1-4 primarily address pain relief with varying frequencies and parameters.

Program 5 promotes muscle relaxation and metabolite removal.

Programs 6-7 focus on muscle strengthening at different intensities.

Programs 8-12 are for treating various types of incontinence.

Contraindications

The Myolito use is contraindicated or requires special caution in certain cases. Read this blog post about electrical therapy contraindications.

The stimulator generally should not be used by patients with pacemakers, myocardial damage or arrhythmia, epilepsy, or during inflammatory processes.

During pregnancy, usage on the abdomen is forbidden and elsewhere only after medical consultation.

The device must not be used on the head, carotid artery area, near the heart, eyes, or laryngeal area.

Electrodes must not be placed on damaged skin or directly on the spine.

Maintenance and lifespan

The Myolito is virtually maintenance-free with an expected lifespan of 8-10 years.

A fully charged battery provides about 12 hours of treatment at 20 mA intensity.

The device has IP20 protection rating, meaning it is not waterproof. Cleaning is done with mild detergent, water, and a damp cloth. It should never be submerged or exposed to heavy moisture.

Cables can be cleaned with a damp cloth and occasionally treated with talcum powder to maintain flexibility.

Documentation and traceability

The device has a built-in therapy memory, allowing tracking of treatments. It records number, duration, and applied intensity of treatments. This is useful for doctors or therapists to monitor treatment effectiveness.

Probe options

Incontinence treatment can be performed using self-adhesive electrodes and body cavity probes (the more effective method). Probes are optional (not included in the basic package).

The probe is a plastic and metal combination. Electrode surfaces have a very thin gold plating, suitable even for metal allergies.

Incontinence therapy includes treatment of stress and urge incontinence and fecal incontinence. Mixed incontinence can be treated with individual programs or sequential application of the stress and urge incontinence programs.
