Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy unit or wave massage unit. These three terms refer to the same device, without difference.

The device is primarily designed for home use, but it can also be used by therapists and in smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump".

Cuffs consisting of multiple airchambers are connected to the device. The unit inflates and deflates these chambers sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

This compresses muscles, veins, and lymph vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical action reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device offers multiple modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations according to individual needs.

Conditions and diseases it can treat

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective in treating various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: A disease of the lymphatic system causing fluid accumulation and swelling. This unit helps reduce swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: Improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Common after breast removal surgery due to lymphatic flow disruption. The device helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: May help reduce swelling and improve joint mobility in those with rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Assists in reducing postoperative bruising by improving circulation and promoting resorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent clots in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the body part you wish to treat.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their specific body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating post-breast surgery arm edema. Leg cuffs come in lengths up to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs are available as belts or pant styles for treating the upper thigh, hips, and lower abdomen.

Upper limb treatment

Lymphedema on the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is generally sufficient. Athletes can use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff below the underarm.

Arm cuff

Measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm below the underarm before purchase. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italic values=length in cm; red line and bold values=circumference in cm.

Lower limb treatment

Measure ankle, calf, knee, and thigh first. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. Expandable with zipper extensions if needed!

Half-height leg cuff

Knee-length, especially for treatment of post-thrombotic syndrome (treatment starts 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema up to the foot or ankle; higher edema requires long cuffs.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose vein symptoms, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle recovery. Usable individually or in pairs, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=half-height; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italic values=length in cm; red line and bold values=circumference in cm.

Waist, buttock, and abdomen treatment

For the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen, pant and belt cuffs are available. These cuffs are necessary when lymphedema reaches the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Completely surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Offers a wide size range with a three-row zipper (small–medium–maximum). Has built-in airhose; no separate purchase needed.

Belt cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than the pant cuff but more affordable. Suitable for lymphoedema and cosmetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italic values=length in cm; red line and bold values=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated hypertension.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium offers all settings medically recommended for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device features 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used for treating lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E is intermediate. Start with A1 and switch only if results are insufficient.

A1, C, and E programs also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and post-stroke patients.

Programs A1-C-E operate in an upward direction: the lowest chamber inflates first, followed by the next, and so on.

The A2 program is reversed (top-down) and must never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. Recommended in certain peripheral arterial disease stages and postoperative conditions to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymphatic fluid).

The menu system is user-friendly. Settings can be saved so next time you only need to press "start".

It is particularly important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops when time expires.

Treatment guidelines

Follow instructions from your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Start initial treatments with the A1 program.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show best results this way for calf lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times provide more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. Multiple 30-minute treatments are better than fewer longer ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Evaluate effects after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after every session.

Risks of incorrect use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-damage, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-infarction require extra caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg, and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it may promote spreading. However, leg treatment is safe in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected outcomes

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Alleviates discomfort from swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended duration of use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and may be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine compression therapy is unsuitable or requires caution and lower pressure in certain cases.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist supervision.
  • Heart disease and hypertension need heightened caution: use single cuff at lower pressure (40-50 mmHg) and prefer longer sessions rather than higher pressure.
