Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also referred to as a pressure therapy device or wave massage device; these three terms refer to the same device without difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be applied by therapists and smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, a "air pump."

Cuffs comprising multiple air chambers are connected to the device. The machine inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

This compresses the muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (interstitial fluid), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device has various operating modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to individual needs.

Which conditions and diseases can it treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective in treating a range of conditions, including:

  • Lymphoedema (lymphedema): A lymphatic system disorder causing fluid accumulation in tissues and swelling. The device helps reduce swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: Improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: After breast removal surgery, arm swelling is common due to lymph flow disruption. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: Can assist in treating swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce postoperative hematomas by improving circulation and promoting absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent blood clot formation in patients at risk for DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff range

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the body part you wish to treat.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for specific body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating arm edema after breast surgery. Leg cuffs are available in knee-length or thigh-length versions. Waist cuffs come as belt or pant styles for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper limbs treatment

Lymphoedema on the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is generally sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fastens the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and under the upper arm near the underarm. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italic values denote length in cm; red line and bold values denote circumference in cm.

Lower limbs treatment

Measure your ankle, calf, knee, and thigh first. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. Zip extensions can be added if necessary!

Mid-length leg cuff

Knee-length, especially used for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment starts only 3–4 months after thrombosis). Only applicable for edema up to foot or ankle level; for higher edema, a long cuff is required.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphoedema, lipedema, varicose vein complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Usable individually or in pairs, extensible.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=mid-length; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italic values denote length in cm; red line and bold values denote circumference in cm.

Trunk, buttocks and abdomen treatment

Pant and belt cuffs can be selected for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary if lymphoedema reaches up to the thigh. Suitable for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Completely encircles the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Offers a wide size range (small–medium–maximum) with a triple zipper. Built-in airhose; no need to purchase extra airhose.

Belt cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than the pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphoedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italic values denote length in cm; red line and bold values denote circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes it is useful to use several cuffs simultaneously. Contraindicated in heart failure, myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated hypertension.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all settings medically recommended for at-home maintenance treatment of lymphoedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used to treat lymphoedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic states.

A1 is the gentlest, C the strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and post-stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs work bottom-up: first the lowest chamber inflates, then the next.

The A2 program is reverse (top-down) and should never be used for lymphoedema or varicose veins. It is recommended in certain stages of peripheral arterial diseases and postoperative states to improve microcirculation.

Inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymph vessel).

The menu system is easy to operate. Settings can be saved so next time you only need to press "start."

It is especially important that chamber pressure can be individually adjusted for optimal leg lymphoedema treatment.

Treatment time can be adjusted between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops after the time elapses.

Treatment guidelines

Follow your doctor's or therapist's instructions.

General guidelines:

The aim is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Start initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show best results for leg lymphoedema with this method.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times ensure more effective lymphoedema treatment.

Start with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It is better to have several 30-minute sessions than a few long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be assessed after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings every session.

Risks of incorrect use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, applying 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause microdamage, potentially harden edematous tissues, and worsen the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-heart attack need increased caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it may promote spread. However, legs can be safely treated in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Prevention of complications: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended duration of use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily as needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine lymphatic massage is not suitable in certain cases or requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., after Wertheim operation) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist supervision.
  • Cardiac diseases and hypertension require caution despite treatment: use only one cuff at a lower pressure (40-50 mmHg) and prefer longer sessions over increasing pressure.
