Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also referred to as a pressure therapy device or wave massage unit. These three terms refer to the same device, with no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be applied by therapists and in smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The operation of the device is based on the so-called pneumatic compressor, an "air pump."

The device connects to cuffs consisting of multiple airchambers. The unit inflates and deflates these chambers in sequence, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels, directing excess fluid toward the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device has multiple modes allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to meet individual needs.

What conditions and diseases can it be used to treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium can effectively treat various conditions including:

  • Lymphedema: A disease of the lymphatic system involving fluid accumulation between tissues causing swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: Improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Arm swelling after mastectomy: Post breast-removal surgery arm swelling is common due to lymph flow disruption. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: The unit may assist in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce postoperative bruising by enhancing circulation and promoting absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent clot formation in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff selection

The device has optional accessories available for purchase. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose a cuff suitable for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body parts. The device can connect up to three cuffs, which can be used simultaneously if health permits.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating arm edema after breast surgery. Leg cuffs come in lengths to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs are available as belt or pant styles for the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen treatment.

Treatment of upper limbs

Lymphedema on the arm is usually unilateral – typically one arm cuff is sufficient. Athletes can use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners keep the cuff secured under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm below the underarm. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italicized value indicate length in cm; red line and bold value indicate circumference in cm.

Treatment of lower limbs

First measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be extended with zip add-ons if needed!

Half-length leg cuff

Knee-length, mainly used for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (therapy can start only 3-4 months after thrombosis). Applicable for edema up to the foot or ankle; longer cuffs are required for higher edema.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or in pairs and extended.

Treatment of waist, hips, and abdomen

Pant and waist cuffs are options for treatment of upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary if the lymphedema reaches the thigh. Suitable also for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation treatments.

Pant cuff

Fully surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Features a three-row zipper offering a wide size range (small–medium–max). Built-in airhose; no need for additional purchase.

Waist cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastener. Less effective than pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Cuff combinations

Simultaneous use of multiple cuffs can sometimes be practical. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides every medically recommended setting for home maintenance therapy of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used for treating lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic states.

A1 is mildest, C strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1 and switch only if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E can also enhance muscle regeneration for athletes and stroke patients.

Programs A1-C-E operate from bottom to top: first the lowest chamber inflates, then the next.

Program A2 inflates in reverse (top to bottom) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. Recommended for certain peripheral arterial diseases at specific stages and postoperative states to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues to "squeeze out" edema (lymph fluid).

The menu system is user-friendly. Settings can be saved, so next time only the 'start' button needs pressing.

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device turns off automatically when time expires.

Treatment guidelines

Follow instructions from your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Start treatments with the A1 program.

Set pressure so that the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves the best results for leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold time provides more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with 20-minute sessions.

Monitor the treatment effect and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It's better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than infrequent long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 sessions; avoid changing settings after every treatment.

Risks of incorrect use

Applying 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient for lymph and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-injuries, potentially hardening edematous tissue and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or after heart attack should use caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it might promote spread. However, leg treatment is safe in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Enhances joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Lowers the risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended duration of use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and may be repeated daily if needed. For optimal outcomes, use regularly over weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine compression therapy is unsuitable in certain cases, or requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use cautiously:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.
  • Heart diseases and hypertension require extra caution despite treatment; use one cuff at lower pressure (40-50 mmHg) and rather extend session length than increase pressure.
