Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is an advanced compression therapy unit. It is also referred to as a pressure therapy unit or wave massage device. These three terms refer to the same device, with no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be used by therapists and in small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that meets strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating Principle

The operation is based on a pneumatic compressor, an "air pump".

Cuffs made of several airchambers are connected to the device. The device inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels within, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (interstitial fluid), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device offers multiple modes allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to suit individual needs.

Conditions and Diseases Treated

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective in treating various conditions including:

  • Lymphedema: A lymphatic system disorder causing fluid buildup and swelling. The device helps reduce swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: It improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Common after breast removal surgery due to impaired lymph flow. The device aids in reducing postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: Can help manage swelling and improve joint mobility.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce hematomas after surgery by improving circulation and absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent clot formation in patients at risk.
  • Sports recovery: Highly suitable for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff Selection

Accessories for the device are available separately. Different types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the suitable cuff for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for respective body areas. The device can connect up to three cuffs and, if health allows, they can be used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for post-breast surgery arm edema treatment. Leg cuffs come up to knee or thigh length in sizes M-L-XL. They can be extended with zipper inserts if needed.

Upper Limb Treatment

Lymphedema on the arm usually affects one side – one arm cuff is usually sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm Cuff

Measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm under the underarm before purchase. Choose M or L size.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: Green line and italicized value indicate length in cm; red line and bold value indicate circumference in cm.

Lower Limb Treatment

First measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee and thigh-length cuffs (M-L-XL) are available. Extendable with zippers if necessary.

Half-length leg cuff

Knee-length, suitable for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment may only start 3–4 months post-thrombosis). Used for edema limited to foot or ankle; higher edema requires long cuff.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose vein complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or in pairs; extendable.

Waist, Buttocks and Abdomen Treatment

For the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen, pant and waist cuffs are available. These cuffs are necessary if lymphedema extends to the thigh. They are also suitable for cosmetic applications such as cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Fully surrounds thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Features triple zipper for wide size range (small–medium–maximal). Built-in airhose; no need to purchase extra airhose.

Waist cuff

Waist-shaped with Velcro fastener. Less effective than pant cuff but more affordable. Suitable for lymphedema and cosmetic treatments (cellulite).

Cuff Combinations

Sometimes simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated for heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated hypertension.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium offers all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used to treat lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E can also improve muscle recovery in athletes and stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs operate bottom-up: the lower chamber inflates first, then the next.

The A2 program inflates top-down and should never be used in lymphedema or varicose veins. It is recommended for improving microcirculation in certain peripheral arterial diseases and post-operative states.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymphatic fluid).

The menu system is easy to operate. You can save the settings to only press “start” next time.

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set from 5 to 99 minutes. The device stops when time elapses.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow the instructions of your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not recommended.

Start initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so that the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies suggest this achieves best results in lower leg lymphedema.

Keep each pressure interval for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times ensure more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It's better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than infrequent long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be assessed after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each session.

Risks of Incorrect Use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure may cause microinjuries, hardening edematous tissues, and worsen the condition. Avoid aggressive high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy or post-myocardial infarction require caution: do not exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissues, as it may promote spread. However, feet can be safely treated in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected Results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Prevention of complications: Reduces risks of venous ulcers and thrombosis.

Recommended Duration of Use

Frequency and duration depend on the condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and may be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly for several weeks. Consult a lymphatic therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and Precautions

Machine compression therapy is not suitable in certain cases or requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts may be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.
  • Heart diseases and hypertension need extra caution: use only one cuff at low pressure (40-50 mmHg) and prefer longer sessions over increased pressure.
