Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit, also called a pressure therapy unit or wave massage device — all three names refer to the same device. It is primarily designed for home use but is also suitable for therapists and small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that meets strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating Principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump." Cuffs equipped with multiple airchambers are connected to the device. The machine inflates and deflates these sequentially, producing a wave-like massaging effect.

This compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device offers multiple modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment times to individual needs.

For which conditions and diseases is it used?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective for various conditions, including:

  • Lymphedema: A lymphatic system disorder causing fluid accumulation and swelling. The device helps reduce swelling by promoting lymphatic flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: Improves venous return, easing leg heaviness, pain, and swelling related to venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Common after breast removal surgery due to disrupted lymph flow. The Power Q-1000 Premium reduces postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: May help manage swelling and improve joint mobility in affected patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce blood congestion by improving circulation and aiding absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent blood clots in patients at risk for DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff Selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the treatment area.

The arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for specific body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and used simultaneously, if health permits.

The arm cuff is particularly suitable for treating post-mastectomy arm edema. Leg cuffs come in knee-length or thigh-length sizes. Waist cuffs are available as belts or pants to treat the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper Limb Treatment

Upper limb lymphedema usually affects one side - one arm cuff is generally sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm Cuff

Measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm under the underarm before purchase. Select M or L size.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italicized number = length in cm; red line and bold number = circumference in cm.

Lower Limb Treatment

Measure ankle, calf, knee, and thigh first. Knee- and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. Expandable with zipper extension if needed!

Mid-length leg cuff

Knee-length, especially for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment starts 3-4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema up to foot or ankle; longer cuff required for higher edema.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic status, and muscle regeneration. Usable individually or in pairs, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H = mid-length; M–L–XL = thigh length; green line and italicized number = length in cm; red line and bold number = circumference in cm.

Waist, Buttocks and Abdomen Treatment

Pant and belt cuffs are available for upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are needed if lymphedema reaches the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic uses like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant Cuff

Fully encircles thighs, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Features triple zipper for broad size range (small–medium–maximum). Built-in airhose, no extra airhose needed.

Belt Cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastener. Less effective than pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphedema and cosmetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P = pants; M–L = belt cuff; green line and italicized number = length in cm; red line and bold number = circumference in cm.

Cuff Combinations

Sometimes using multiple cuffs simultaneously is recommended. Contraindicated with heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated high blood pressure.

4 chamber cuff overview

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

The A1, C, and E programs are used for lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic state treatment.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

A1, C, and E programs work from bottom to top: the lowest chamber inflates first, then the next.

The A2 program is reversed (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. Recommended for certain stages of peripheral arterial disease and postoperative states to improve microcirculation.

Inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymph flow).

The menu system is easy to operate. Settings can be saved, so next time you only need to press "start."

It's especially important that chamber pressure can be individually adjusted for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set from 5 to 99 minutes. The device stops after the set time.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow doctor or therapist instructions.

General Guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Start treatments with the A1 program.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this yields the best results for lower leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one complete cycle per minute. Longer hold times ensure more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with 20 minutes of treatment.

Monitor effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It's better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than occasional long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects are assessed after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each session.

Risks of Improper Use

For lymph and venous circulation, 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause microdamage, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-myocardial infarction require caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg, and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it may promote spread. In cases of thyroid cancer, leg treatment is acceptable.

Expected Results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Alleviates discomfort from swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended Use Duration

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and Precautions

Machine compression therapy is unsuitable or requires caution and lower pressure in some cases.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure may be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage may spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., post-Wertheim operation) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist supervision.
  • Heart disease and hypertension require extra caution despite treatment: use one cuff only at low pressure (40-50 mmHg), prefer longer sessions over increased pressure.
