Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also referred to as a pneumatic compression device or wave massage unit. These three terms describe the same device, with no differences.
The device is primarily designed for home use, but it can also be used by therapists and small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that meets strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating Principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump."

Cuffs consisting of multiple airchambers are connected to the device. The unit inflates and deflates these chambers sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, blood vessels, and lymph vessels within, directing excess fluid toward the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device offers multiple modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to individual needs.

Conditions and Diseases Treated

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effectively used for various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: A condition of the lymphatic system causing fluid buildup in tissues and swelling. The device helps reduce swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: Improves venous return, alleviating leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Swelling common after breast removal surgery due to impaired lymph flow. The device helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: Can help manage swelling and improve joint mobility in patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce postoperative blood accumulation through improved circulation and absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent blood clots in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff Selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Different types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the body part to be treated.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body areas. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if the health condition allows, can be used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating post-mastectomy arm edema. Leg cuffs are available in knee-length or thigh-length options. Waist cuffs come in belt or pant forms for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper Limb Treatment

Lymphedema on the arm usually affects one side – one arm cuff is typically sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm Cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and underarm parts of the upper arm. Choose between M or L size.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: the green line and italicized value indicate length in cm; the red line and bold value indicate circumference in cm.

Lower Limb Treatment

First, measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be extended with zip attachments if needed!

Mid-length leg cuff

Knee-length, specifically used for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment starts only 3-4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema up to foot or ankle; higher edema requires a longer cuff.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle recovery. Can be used individually or in pairs, with options to expand.

Waist, Buttocks and Abdomen Treatment

Pant and belt cuffs can be chosen for the upper thigh, hips, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary if lymphedema reaches the thigh. They are also suitable for cosmetic applications such as cellulite and cavitation treatments.

Pant cuff

Fully surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Features a triple-row zipper for wide size range (small–medium–maximum). Built-in airhose; no need to purchase an additional airhose.

Belt cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastener. Less effective than pant cuffs but more affordable. Suitable for lymphoedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=Pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff Combinations

Sometimes multiple cuffs are used simultaneously. Contraindicated for heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated high blood pressure.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium offers all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device features 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used for treating lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E medium strength. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

These programs also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and post-stroke patients.

Programs A1, C, and E operate bottom-up: the lower chamber inflates first, followed by the next chamber.

The A2 program is inverted (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose conditions. It is recommended for improving microcirculation in certain stages of peripheral arterial disease and post-operative conditions.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses the underlying tissues, "expressing" the edema (lymp vessels).

The menu system is easy to use. You can save settings so next time you only need to press "start."

It's especially important that the chamber pressure is adjustable individually for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time is adjustable between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops when the time elapses.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow instructions from your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not recommended.

Start initial treatments with the A1 program.

Set pressure so that the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves the best results for leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer holding times provide more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with a 20-minute session.

Monitor treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if necessary. It's better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than infrequent long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after every session.

Risks of Incorrect Use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, adequate pressure is 30-60 mmHg. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-injuries, potentially hardening the edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-infarction require increased caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid overloading the heart.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue, as it might promote spread. However, leg treatment in thyroid cancer cases is safe.

Expected Results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively reduces limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Alleviates discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Lowers risks of venous ulcers and clotting tendency.

Recommended Usage Duration

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if necessary. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and Precautions

Machine compression therapy is not suitable in some cases or may require caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments should be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolute contraindication.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors requires oncologist guidance.
  • Heart diseases and hypertension require increased caution: use only one cuff at a lower pressure (40-50 mmHg) and prefer longer sessions over increased pressure.
