Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy unit or wave massage machine. These three terms refer to the same device, with no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be applied by therapists and smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating Principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, a "air pump."

The device connects to cuffs consisting of multiple airchambers. It inflates and deflates these chambers sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

This compresses muscles, veins, and lymph vessels, directing excess fluid toward the heart.

This mechanical action reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device offers various modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to suit individual needs.

What conditions and diseases can it treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effectively used for treating various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: A disease of the lymphatic system causing fluid accumulation and swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: The device improves venous return, alleviating leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Arm swelling after breast removal surgery due to lymph flow disruption. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: The device may assist in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: It helps reduce hematomas after surgery by improving circulation and absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent clot formation in high-risk patients.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff selection

Various types and sizes of cuffs are available for this device and must be purchased separately. Select the cuff that targets the specific body part you need to treat.

Arm, leg, and trunk cuffs are each specially designed for effective treatment of their respective areas. You can connect up to three four-chamber cuffs to the device at once.

The arm cuff is particularly useful for treating post-mastectomy arm lymphedema. Leg cuffs come in various sizes, including knee-high and thigh-high versions. Trunk cuffs are available as pants or belt styles, ideal for treating the abdomen and hip areas.

Upper limb treatment

Arm lymphedema typically affects one side, so usually one arm cuff is sufficient. If you are an athlete seeking muscle recovery, consider purchasing two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. The arm cuff features a Velcro strap for secure attachment under the opposite armpit.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure the circumference of your wrist, forearm, and upper arm just below the armpit to choose the correct size. Arm cuffs are available in M and L sizes.

Lower limb treatment

Before selecting a leg cuff, measure the circumference of your ankle, calf, knee, and thigh root to determine the appropriate size. Two types of leg cuffs are available: knee-high and thigh-high. Thigh-high cuffs come in M, L, and XL. If the standard size is insufficient, extension zippers are available.

Half-length leg cuff

This knee-high cuff is specifically designed for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment. It can be used 3–4 months after thrombosis to manage residual symptoms. Use this cuff for lymphedema only if swelling is confined to the foot or ankle; for higher swelling, a long cuff is required.

Thigh-high leg cuff

This cuff is ideal for leg lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions, as well as for sports recovery. Purchase one cuff for unilateral edema or a pair for both legs. If standard sizes do not fit, size can be increased with extenders. Use this cuff if your lymphedema extends to the thigh; then treat both the leg and trunk. It can also be used for cellulite treatment, although pants are more effective.

Trunk, buttocks, and abdomen treatment

To treat the upper thigh, hips, buttocks, and abdomen, choose either a pants-style or belt-style trunk cuff. Use these cuffs if your lymphedema extends to the thigh; then treat both the leg and trunk. They’re also used in beauty treatments for cellulite and post-cavitation fat removal.

The pants-style cuff provides more effective treatment by encircling the thighs and buttocks completely. The belt-style cuff works like a mini skirt, leaving the inner thigh and lower buttocks untreated. Pants cuffs have built-in tubing; belt cuffs require a separate air tube. Before choosing, measure around the abdomen one palm below the navel and around the hips to select the right size.

Cuff combinations

In some cases, combining cuffs (using multiple cuffs simultaneously) may be necessary. Do not use these combinations if you have heart failure, post-infarction status, cardiomyopathy, or uncontrolled hypertension.

Trunk and leg cuffs

Used for lymphatic and lipedema treatments, as well as cosmetic procedures (cellulite, cavitation enhancement). This combination is less expensive but somewhat less effective than the next.

Pants and leg cuffs

Optimal for cosmetic treatments (cellulite, post-cavitation) and thigh–hip lymphedema or lipedema treatment.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium allows all settings recommended medically for at-home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, post-thrombotic conditions, etc.

The device has six programs (A1, A2, B, C, D, E).

For lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions, use programs A1, C, and E. A1 is the mildest, C is the strongest, and E is intermediate. Be patient: start with A1 and only switch if results are inadequate.

Programs A1, C, and E can also be used to improve muscle recovery in athletes or post-stroke patients. These programs inflate cuffs from bottom to top.

The A2 program inflates from top to bottom and must never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins; it is indicated only for certain stages of peripheral arterial disease and postoperative microcirculation improvement.

Each inflated chamber applies pressure to underlying tissues, “squeezing out” edema (lymph).

The menu is user-friendly and allows saving settings, so you only need to set up the device once and press “start” next time.

It’s crucial that each chamber’s pressure is adjustable for the most effective leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time is adjustable from 5 to 99 minutes; the device stops automatically when time elapses.

Treatment information

Follow your doctor’s or therapist’s instructions for treatments.

General guidelines:

The goal of lymphatic massage is to improve blood and lymph flow; high pressure is unnecessary and even counterproductive. Start initial treatments with program A1. Set chamber pressures with the highest value in the lowest chamber, decreasing upward (e.g., 60-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this gradient offers the most effective leg lymphedema treatment. Set the pressure-hold time to 13–15 seconds to complete one full inflation cycle per minute; longer hold times are more effective. Begin with 20 minutes per session. Monitor effects and, if needed, increase to 30 minutes. It’s better to do multiple 30-minute sessions than infrequent longer ones. Limit daily total to 120 minutes. Be patient: measure improvements only after 3–4 treatments; do not change settings every session.

Risks of incorrect treatment

Helping blood and lymph flow requires only 30–60 mmHg; international medical studies uniformly recommend this range. Higher pressures can cause micro-injuries and hardening of edematous tissue. Excessive and hasty treatments can worsen your condition.

Exercise extreme caution if you have heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or a history of myocardial infarction. Never exceed 40–50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid overloading circulation and causing cardiac issues.

Do not treat active tumors, as you may promote their spread. However, treating your legs for a thyroid tumor is safe.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort associated with swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Reduces stiffness and swelling to increase joint range of motion.
  • Complication prevention: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and DVT.

Treatment frequency

Frequency and duration depend on the condition and individual factors. Sessions typically last 20–60 minutes and can be repeated daily or multiple times per day as needed. For best results, use regularly over weeks and consult a lymphedema therapist to determine the appropriate plan.

Risks and contraindications

Machine-based lymphatic massage is contraindicated or requires caution in certain cases.

CONTRAINDICATED:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): Compression may worsen arterial circulation issues.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts from compression can be dangerous; use with caution, limiting to small areas and low pressure.
  • Active deep vein thrombosis (DVT): Compression can dislodge clots; strictly prohibited in acute DVT.
  • Acute skin infection (e.g., erysipelas): Massage may spread infection.

USE WITH CAUTION:

  • Post extensive pelvic or abdominal lymph node removal (e.g., Wertheim procedure) requires professional supervision.
  • Leg swelling due to abdominal tumors should be treated only under oncologist guidance.
  • In heart conditions, myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathy, or uncontrolled hypertension, use low pressure (max 40–50 mmHg) and a single cuff. Treatment may take longer but is safer (“advance slowly to safely reach the goal”).
