Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit, also known as a pressure therapy unit or wave massage unit. These three terms refer to the same device, with no difference.

The device is primarily designed for home use but is also applicable for therapists and smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating Principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump".

Cuffs composed of multiple airchambers are connected to the unit. The device inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

This compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical action reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device has multiple modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment duration to suit individual needs.

What conditions and diseases can it treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective in treating various conditions, including:

  • Lymphedema: a lymphatic system disorder with fluid accumulation causing swelling. The device reduces swelling by promoting lymph circulation.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: improves venous return, easing leg heaviness, pain, and swelling related to venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: after breast removal surgery, arm swelling due to impaired lymph flow is common. The device helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Postoperative hematomas: reduces swelling through improved circulation and absorption.
  • Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT): used prophylactically to prevent clots in at-risk patients.
  • Sports recovery: excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff assortment

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body areas. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating post-mastectomy arm edema. Leg cuffs are available in sizes reaching up to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs come as belts or pant cuffs for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Treatment of upper limbs

Lymphedema in the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is typically sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm below the underarm. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Treatment of lower limbs

Measure your ankle, calf, knee, and thigh first. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. Zip extensions are available if needed!

Mid-height leg cuff

Knee-length, specially used for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment starts 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema reaching the foot or ankle; for higher edema, a long cuff is required.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or as a pair, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=mid-height; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Treatment of waist, buttocks and abdomen

Pant and belt cuffs are selected for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary when lymphedema reaches the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Completely surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Provides a wide size range (small–medium–maximum) with triple zipper closure. Built-in airhose; no need for additional airhose purchase.

Belt cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than pant cuff but more affordable. Suitable for lymphedema and cosmetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes the simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, heart attack, cardiomyopathy, or untreated hypertension.

Overview of 4-chamber cuffs

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all settings medically recommended for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombosis conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

A1, C, and E programs are used for treating lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic states.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1; only switch if results are insufficient.

A1, C, and E programs work bottom-up: first inflating the lowest chamber, then the next.

The A2 program works in reverse (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. It is recommended in certain stages of peripheral arterial disease and postoperative conditions to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (in lymph vessels).

The menu system is user-friendly. You can save settings, so next time you only need to press "start".

It's especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops automatically after time expires.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow your doctor's or therapist's instructions.

General guidelines:

The aim is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not recommended.

Start initial treatments with the A1 program.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves the best results for lower leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times ensure more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor the treatment effect; if needed, increase to 30 minutes. Frequent 30-minute treatments are better than occasional longer ones. Daily total treatment shouldn’t exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Evaluate effects after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each treatment.

Risks of Incorrect Use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, applying 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure may cause micro-injuries, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-infarction require caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue, as it may promote spread. However, legs with thyroid cancer can be treated safely.

Expected Results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively reduces limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort from swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis susceptibility.

Recommended Duration of Use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and may be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymphoedema specialist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and Precautions

Compression therapy is not suitable in some cases and requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure may be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Post-lymph node removal edema (e.g., after Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.
  • Heart diseases and hypertension require extra caution: use one cuff at low pressure (40-50 mmHg) and prefer longer sessions over increasing pressure.
