Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy or wave massage unit. These three terms refer to the same device; there is no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be used by therapists and small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that meets stringent European quality and safety standards.

Working Principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, a "air pump."

Cuffs consisting of multiple airchambers are connected to the device. The machine inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels inside them, directing excess fluid toward the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device offers various modes allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to individual needs.

What conditions and diseases can it be used to treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium can be effectively used to treat various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: a lymphatic system disorder causing fluid accumulation between tissues and swelling. The device helps reduce swelling by stimulating lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: improves venous return, easing leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: arm swelling after breast removal surgery due to lymphatic flow disorder. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: may help manage swelling and improve joint mobility in those affected.
  • Postoperative hematomas: helps reduce postoperative hematomas by enhancing circulation and absorption.
  • Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT): used prophylactically to prevent clot formation in patients at risk.
  • Sports recovery: excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the body part to be treated.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and used simultaneously if health conditions allow.

The arm cuff is particularly suitable for treating arm edema post breast surgery. Leg cuffs are available in knee-length or thigh-length. Waist cuffs come as a belt or pant form to treat the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Treatment of upper limbs

Lymphedema on the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is usually sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm under the armpit. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italicized value = length in cm; red line and bold value = circumference in cm.

Treatment of lower limbs

First measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. Can be expanded with zip extensions if needed!

Half-length leg cuff

Knee-length, especially for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (therapy may start only 3–4 months after thrombosis). Used only for edema up to foot or ankle; longer cuffs are needed for higher edema.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Usable individually or in pairs, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H = half-height; M–L–XL = thigh length; green line and italicized value = length in cm; red line and bold value = circumference in cm.

Treatment of waist, buttocks, and abdomen

For the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen, pant and waist cuffs are available. These cuffs are needed if lymphedema reaches up to the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Fully encircles the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Offers a wide size range with a three-row zipper (small–medium–maximum). Built-in airhose; no separate airhose purchase needed.

Waist cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P = pant; M–L = waist cuff; green line and italicized value = length in cm; red line and bold value = circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes it is advisable to use multiple cuffs simultaneously. Contraindicated in heart failure, heart attack, cardiomyopathy, or untreated high blood pressure.

Overview of 4-chamber cuffs

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombosis conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used for the treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E the middle. Start with A1 and switch only if results are insufficient.

A1, C, and E programs can improve muscle regeneration in athletes and post-stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs operate from bottom to top: first the lowest chamber inflates, then the next.

The A2 program is the reverse (top-down) and must never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. Recommended for improving microcirculation in certain stages of peripheral artery disease and postoperative states.

The pressure in the inflated chamber compresses the underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymph).

The menu system is easy to operate. Settings can be saved so next time you only have to press the "start" button.

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops when time elapses.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow the instructions of your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Begin initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upward (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves the best results in lower leg lymphedema.

Keep each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times provide more effective lymphedema treatment.

Start with a 20-minute session.

Observe treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It is better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than fewer long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each treatment.

Risks of improper use

A pressure of 30-60 mmHg is sufficient for lymphatic and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-injuries, potentially harden edematous tissues, and worsen the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-heart attack require increased caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg, and use only one cuff at a time to prevent cardiac overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it may promote spreading. However, legs can be safely treated in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Alleviates discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Reduces risks of venous ulcers and thrombosis susceptibility.

Recommended usage duration

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments typically last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Mechanical compression therapy is not suitable in certain cases, requiring caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral artery disease (PAD): high pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments should be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: compression can dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g. erysipelas): massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g. post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist supervision.
  • Heart diseases and high blood pressure require caution despite treatment: use only one cuff at low pressure (40-50 mmHg), prefer extending sessions over increasing pressure.
