At maximum continuous operation this means up to 360 Joules per minute energy delivery. In pulsed programs the average energy delivery may be lower. Does 6 W penetrate deeper than 2 W? The main advantage of higher power is faster dose delivery. Penetration is also determined by wavelength, tissue optical properties, spot size, contact and treatment geometry; 6 W alone does not imply three times the penetration depth. Are protective goggles mandatory? Yes. The device is a Class 4 laser. Both operator and patient must wear certified laser-protective goggles appropriate for the used wavelength.
