TENS programmes can provide immediate, noticeable relief for chronic low back, neck and shoulder pain (pain perception is reduced during the treatment). For deeper muscle and joint complaints, the interferential (IF) programme is the gentler, deeper option. Specific programmes are available for sciatica, chronic lumbago, cervical pain, shoulder-blade syndrome, whiplash and trapezius pain. Details: TENS pillar and IF pillar.
There is a dedicated TENS programme for knee pain (acute knee pain) and a specific microcurrent programme for knee osteoarthritis. For acute pain peaks TENS gives quick relief; for chronic complaints a microcurrent course can provide meaningful support after 2–4 weeks of regular use. Important: the main treatment for osteoarthritis is exercise, weight control and prescribed medication — electrotherapy is complementary to these.
After knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, shoulder dislocation or spine surgery your muscles can weaken. The Genesy 1500 EMS programmes actively work your muscles, even if pain prevents full voluntary movement. Specific rehab programmes include ACL post-op recovery, shoulder dislocation prevention, vastus medialis reactivation, lower limb muscle recovery and muscle spasm release. What you need to know: consult your surgeon before post-op use about the start time and electrode positions.
There are 53 sport programmes: warm-up, maximal strength, endurance strength, explosive power, hypertrophy, capillarization and active recovery (reducing post-exercise soreness). Plus 84 ActionNow programmes — ready-to-start stimulation packs that can be combined with training. Important: EMS does NOT replace training — it complements it. Your fitness still depends on training.
For chronic wounds that have not healed for months (leg ulcers, chronic heel ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, pressure sores) the microcurrent programme (MENS/MCR) can provide meaningful support alongside standard wound care. Microcurrent is so gentle you do not feel it — therefore it is suitable near sensitive or inflamed skin. Dedicated TENS and microcurrent programmes are available for chronic tendon problems (tennis elbow, shoulder tendinitis, Achilles tendinopathy, rotator cuff tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome). Microcurrent may support cellular regeneration, while TENS helps with pain relief. What you need to know: these conditions rarely improve quickly — plan for 4–6 weeks of regular treatment.
FES (functional electrical stimulation) programmes support post-stroke rehabilitation (hemiplegia — relearning upper and lower limb movement). Separate denervated-muscle programmes are available for peripheral nerve injury (triangle, trapezoid and square pulses depending on the degree of damage). What you need to know: the Genesy 1500 does not include a Rheobase/Chronaxie diagnostic module like the Genesy 3000 — if that diagnostic precision is required, consider the larger sibling. Post-stroke rehabilitation requires neurologist and physiotherapist consultation.
The iontophoresis programme (channel 1) helps deliver anti-inflammatory, anaesthetic or acetic-acid based preparations beneath the skin — deeper than a simple cream can reach. Typical use: tennis elbow, heel spur, subacromial bursitis. The iontophoresis sponge insert is available separately (not included). The Genesy 1500 offers programmes for all three forms of incontinence: stress incontinence (leakage with coughing, sneezing or lifting), urge incontinence (sudden, uncontrollable urge to pass urine) and mixed incontinence (combination of the two). Targeted stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles can support improved sphincter control. What you need to know: targeted treatment requires a urological (vaginal or anal) probe — this is AVAILABLE SEPARATELY and is not included. Consult a gynaecologist, urologist or urogynecologist before starting treatment to choose the correct programme and probe.
What treatment methods are included, and what are they for?
The Genesy 1500 contains the same main electrotherapy methods as the larger Genesy 3000. Here are the key differences from a patient perspective:
- TENS – for pain relief: a noticeable tingling on the skin; reduces pain perception during the session. For acute and chronic pain (back, neck, shoulder, knee, menstrual pain). 33 complaint-specific programmes. Details: TENS pillar.
- EMS / NMES – for muscle strengthening and rehabilitation: produces visible muscle contractions that "work" the muscle even when pain prevents full active movement. Post-op rehab, sports strengthening, prevention of muscle atrophy. Details: EMS pillar.
- Microcurrent (MENS / MCR) – for wound healing and inflammation reduction: so gentle you typically do not feel it. Supports cellular-level regeneration and reduces inflammation. - FES – to relearn movement after stroke: supports activation of muscles in central paralysis (post-stroke), aiding relearning. Recommended only under specialist supervision.
- Denervated muscle programme – for peripheral paralysis: if a muscle has lost its nerve supply, this programme activates the muscle fibres directly. Triangle, trapezoid and square pulses depending on the degree of damage.
- Kotz (Russian) stimulation – for sport muscle strengthening: strong, mid-frequency impulses. For athletes aiming at maximal strength development and training supplementation.
- Interferential (IF) – for deep muscle and joint pain: a gentler skin sensation than TENS and able to reach deeper tissues. For chronic low back and neck complaints, and joint pain. Details: IF pillar.

Frequently asked questions you may want answered before buying
Generally, no. Electrotherapy is contraindicated in patients with a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator (ICD), neural stimulator or hearing implant — unless specifically authorised by a cardiologist/arrhythmologist. Details in the electrotherapy and implants article.
Yes, the Genesy 1500 is optimised for home use — compact size, Hungarian menu, factory programmes tailored to complaints. Before your first session, however, consult your treating doctor or physiotherapist about which programme they recommend for your specific complaint. For new, worsening or unexplained problems always seek medical consultation first.
The two devices are very similar — same 4 channels, same main current types (TENS, EMS, microcurrent, IF, denervated, Kotz, iontophoresis), same Hungarian menu and complaint-based programme library. Main differences: the Genesy 3000 includes the Rheobase/Chronaxie diagnostic module (for precise denervated muscle parameter setting) and a somewhat larger selection of denervated programmes. The Genesy 1500 is more compact (404 g vs. 790 g), smaller and more affordable. For home use the Genesy 1500 is sufficient in most cases. For post-stroke denervated muscle rehab and professional clinic use consider the Genesy 3000.
It depends on the method. TENS: pain relief is often felt immediately during the session. EMS (muscle strengthening): after 4–6 weeks of regular training. Microcurrent (wound healing, joint inflammation): noticeable changes after 2–4 weeks. IF / iontophoresis: 3–6 weeks. Chronic complaints require patience — it is not like taking a painkiller. If there is no improvement after 6–8 weeks, discuss continuation with your doctor.
Yes, this is the 2+2 mode. The 4 channels split into two groups: channels 1–2 run one programme, channels 3–4 run another. So you can treat two family members simultaneously, or two painful areas (e.g. both knees or your lower back and shoulder). Microcurrent and iontophoresis are exceptions — these programmes do not run in 2+2 mode.
There is no universal answer — consult your treating doctor. Fresh sutures, screws and surgical materials have specific considerations. Many rehabilitation programmes can be started in the days after surgery if the surgeon authorises it. EMS programmes for muscle restoration are typically recommended in the active rehabilitation phase (1–6 weeks post-op), depending on the case.
No. Electrotherapy is a complement, not an alternative. EMS programmes build muscle, but coordination, range-of-motion work and relearning movement patterns are guided by a physiotherapist. The most effective package is: physiotherapy + Genesy 1500 electrotherapy + prescribed medication (if any).
Yes. With the Easy Program function you can save custom or newly created programmes — up to 15 per user. During a session you can also modify frequency, pulse width or treatment time (Run Time function). This is useful for patients whose physiotherapist recommends personalised parameters.

How to use the Genesy 1500 at home
Turn the device on
After switching on, choose your user profile (up to 10 different profiles can be stored — for example one per family member). The device remembers your last 10 used programmes and your favourites.
Select the programme for your complaint
From the Hungarian menu choose by complaint (e.g. “Chronic lumbago”, “Knee osteoarthritis”, “Maximal strength”). The device automatically sets the appropriate current type, frequency and pulse width — you do not need to select technical parameters.
Attach the electrodes
Apply the self-adhesive electrodes from the package around the painful area or the muscle, following your physiotherapist’s recommendation. The device detects poor electrode adhesion and will stop the current for safety.
Set to a comfortable level
Start the programme and slowly raise the intensity with the control. For TENS, increase to a pleasant tingling; for EMS, to a noticeable (but pain-free) muscle contraction. Microcurrent is typically not felt — this is normal. If you feel pain, reduce intensity immediately.
Relax during the session
You can sit or lie down, watch TV, read or rest. A session typically lasts 15–60 minutes — the device runs automatically and stops at the end.
Save your favourites
Store frequently used programmes in Favourites (up to 15 programmes per user) so you can start them with one button. If your physiotherapist prescribes a specific setting, save it as a custom programme using the Easy Program function.

Self-adhesive electrodes typically last for 25–30 treatments — replace them when adhesion weakens or the foil peels. The device comes with a 1-year warranty; the manufacturer recommends a check every 2 years. To keep the battery capacity optimal, check it every 6 months; if the device rests unused for more than 3 months, recharge before use. Clean the device with a damp, clean cloth — for disinfection a diluted sodium hypochlorite solution is appropriate (the user manual describes details).
Iontophoresis sponge insert (60 × 85 mm — for drug delivery), motor point probe (for more precise electrode placement), facial electrodes (for cosmetic programmes), Y-cables, and urological (anal/vaginal) probes for pelvic floor rehab — these accessories are available separately if needed. Discuss with your physiotherapist or treating doctor which accessories are appropriate for your situation.

When should you NOT use the Genesy 1500?
- If you have a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator (ICD), neural stimulator or other active implant — only with cardiologist / arrhythmologist approval.
- Do not place an electrode on the front of your neck (near the carotid artery).
- If you have cancer and the treatment area would be involved — consult an oncologist first.
- If you are pregnant — avoid use throughout the entire pregnancy.
- Do not place electrodes on the head, around the eyes or on the temples.
- Do not conduct current through your chest (one electrode in front, another on the back) — risk of heart rhythm disturbance.
- Do not stimulate the pectoral muscles and back muscles simultaneously.
- For new, worsening or unexplained pain — seek medical evaluation first.
- Do not treat over fresh wounds, dermatological lesions or fresh scars.
- Not recommended in cases of feverish or unexplained inflammation.
- If you have a blood clot (DVT) in the treatment area — contraindicated due to embolisation risk.
- In poorly controlled epilepsy — individual medical assessment is required.
- Capillary fragility (sensitive small vessels) — use cautiously at low intensity.
