Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy device or wave massage device. These three terms refer to the same device, with no differences.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be applied by therapists and small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device complying with strict European quality and safety standards.

Principle of operation

The device operates on the basis of a pneumatic compressor, effectively an "air pump."

Cuffs composed of multiple airchambers are connected to the device. The machine inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massage effect.

This compresses muscles, veins, and lymph vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device features various modes, enabling customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations according to individual needs.

Conditions and diseases it can treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effectively used for various conditions and diseases including:

  • Lymphedema: a disorder of the lymphatic system causing fluid accumulation between tissues, resulting in swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: after breast removal surgery, arm swelling is common due to lymph flow disruption. The Power Q-1000 Premium aids in reducing this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: helps manage swelling and improve joint mobility in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Postoperative hematomas: assists in reducing postoperative bruises by enhancing circulation and absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: used prophylactically to prevent blood clot formation in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health condition permits, can be used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is particularly suitable for treating post-breast surgery arm edema. Leg cuffs are available in lengths up to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs come as waist or pant types for the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen treatment.

Upper limb treatment

Lymphedema in the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is generally sufficient. Athletes can use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and under the upper arm before purchase. Choose M or L size.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Lower limb treatment

First measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-high and thigh-high cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be expanded with zip extensions if needed!

Mid-length leg cuff

Knee-high, specifically suitable for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (therapy can start only 3–4 months after thrombosis). Applicable only for edema up to the foot or ankle; longer cuff required for higher edema.

Thigh-high leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Usable individually or in pairs, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=mid-length; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Trunk, buttocks, and abdomen treatment

Pant and waist cuffs can be selected for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary if lymphedema extends to the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic applications such as cellulitis and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Completely surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Three-row zipper offers a wide size range (small–medium–maximum). Built-in airhose; no need to purchase additional airhose.

Waist cuff

Waist-shaped with Velcro fastener. Less effective than the pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphoedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulitis).

Waist cuff PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=waist cuff; green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated high blood pressure.

Overview of 4 chamber cuffs

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium offers all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombosis conditions.

The device features 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used for lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions treatment.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

The A1, C, and E programs can also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs operate bottom-up: the lowest chamber inflates first, then the next.

The A2 program is the reverse (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. Recommended for improving microcirculation in certain stages of peripheral arterial diseases and postoperative conditions.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses the tissues underneath, "squeezing out" edema (lymph vessel).

The menu system is user-friendly. Settings can be saved, so next time you only need to press "start."

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops after the set time.

Treatment guidelines

Follow your doctor or therapist's instructions.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not recommended.

Start initial treatments with the A1 program.

Set pressure so that the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this yields the best results for lower leg lymphedema.

Each pressure should be maintained for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times provide more effective lymphedema treatment.

Start with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It is better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than rare long ones. Total daily treatment must not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Results should be evaluated after 3-4 sessions; avoid changing settings after each treatment.

Recommended settings

Condition Pressure (mmHg) Time (minutes) Cuff
Arm lymphedema 30-60 20-30 Arm
Leg lymphedema 30-60 20-30 Leg, waist, pant
Lipedema (fat edema) 50-85 30-40 Leg, pant
Venous insufficiency 40-50 30 Leg, below the knee
Heaviness 40-50 30 Leg, below the knee
Venous ulcers 30-50 40-60 Leg, below the knee
Post-thrombotic 50-60 50-60 Leg, below the knee
Post-exercise regeneration 80-90 20-30 Leg, pant, arm

Risks of incorrect use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure may cause microinjuries, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or after heart attack must exercise caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg pressure and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue, as it may promote spread. However, legs can be safely treated in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Relieves discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Reduces risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended duration of use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymphatic therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine compression therapy is unsuitable in certain cases or requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure may be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments should be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression might dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., after Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.
  • Heart diseases and high blood pressure require increased caution despite treatment: Use one cuff at lower pressure (40-50 mmHg), and prefer longer sessions over higher pressure.
