Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy device or wave massage unit. These three names refer to the same device; there is no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use, but can also be applied by therapists or smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that meets strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The device operates on the basis of a pneumatic compressor, a "pump".

The device connects to cuffs consisting of multiple airchambers. The unit inflates and deflates them sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymph vessels, directing excess fluid toward the heart.

This mechanical action reduces oedema (interstitial fluid), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device has several modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to individual needs.

What conditions and diseases can it treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective for treating various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphoedema (lymphedema): A disorder of the lymphatic system causing fluid buildup between tissues resulting in swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by stimulating lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: Improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: After breast removal surgery, arm swelling is common due to lymph flow disruption. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative oedema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: May assist in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce postoperative bruising by improving circulation and promoting absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent clot formation in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle recovery.

Cuff selection

Accessories are available for purchase separately. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Select the cuff suitable for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for specific body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is particularly suitable for treating post-breast surgery arm swelling. Leg cuffs are available in lengths up to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs come in belt or pant styles for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper limb treatment

Lymphoedema on the arm typically affects one side — usually one arm cuff is sufficient. Athletes can use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. The cuffs are secured with Velcro under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm under the armpit. Choose size M or L.

Lower limb treatment

First measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be extended with zippers if needed.

Half-length leg cuff

Knee-length, specifically for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment may start only 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for oedema up to the foot or ankle; for higher oedemas, a long cuff is required.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphoedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or in pairs, expandable.

Trunk, buttocks, and abdomen treatment

Pant and waist cuffs can be chosen for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are needed if lymphoedema reaches the thigh. They are also suitable for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Completely surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Offers a wide size range with a three-row zipper (small–medium–maximum). Built-in airhose; no need to purchase additional airhose.

Waist cuff

Waist-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than the pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphoedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Trunk cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=waist cuff; green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated high blood pressure.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphoedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used to treat lymphoedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic states.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E is medium. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E can improve muscle regeneration in athletes and stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs operate from bottom to top: the lower chamber inflates first, then the next.

Program A2 is reversed (top-down) and should never be used for lymphoedema or varicose veins. It is recommended in certain peripheral arterial disease stages and postoperative states to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" oedema (lymph vessels).

The menu system is easy to use. Settings can be saved so next time you just press the "start" button.

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphoedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set from 5 to 99 minutes. The device stops when time expires.

Treatment guidelines

Follow the instructions of your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Start initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g. 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves the best results for lower leg lymphoedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer holding times provide more effective lymphoedema treatment.

Begin with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor effects and, if needed, increase to 30 minutes. It's better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than rare long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each session.

Risks of improper use

A pressure of 30-60 mmHg is sufficient for lymphatic and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-injuries, potentially harden oedematous tissues, and worsen the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart diseases, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-heart attack require caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue, as it may encourage spread. However, feet can be treated safely in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb oedema.
  • Pain relief: Relieves discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Reduces risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended usage duration

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and may be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymphatic therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Device-based compression therapy is unsuitable in some cases, and caution with lower pressure is needed in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist supervision.
  • Heart diseases and high blood pressure require increased caution: use only one cuff at lower pressure (40-50 mmHg), prefer longer sessions over higher pressure.
