Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is an advanced compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy or wave massage device. These three names refer to the same device, no difference exists.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be used by therapists and small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, an "air pump".

The device connects to cuffs made up of multiple airchambers. The machine inflates and deflates these sequentially, producing a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymph vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device has multiple modes allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations according to individual needs.

Conditions and diseases it can treat

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective in treating various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: a lymphatic system disorder causing fluid accumulation in tissues and swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by stimulating lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: improves venous return, easing leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: common after breast removal surgery due to disturbed lymph flow. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: helps reduce swelling and improve joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
  • Post-surgery hematomas: aids reduction of postoperative bruising by enhancing circulation and absorption.
  • Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT): used prophylactically to prevent blood clots in patients at DVT risk.
  • Sports recovery: excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the body part to be treated.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for specific body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health allows, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating arm edema after breast surgery. Leg cuffs are available with lengths up to knee or thigh. Waist cuffs are available as belts or pants for treating upper thighs, hips, and lower abdomen.

Upper limb treatment

Lymphedema in the arm usually affects one side – typically one arm cuff is sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. The cuff is secured under the underarm with velcro.

Arm cuff

Measure your arm before purchase at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm below the underarm. Choose M or L size.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Lower limb treatment

Measure ankle, calf, knee and thigh first. Cuffs are available knee-length and thigh-length (M–L–XL). Zip extensions are available if necessary.

Half-height leg cuff

Knee-length, specifically for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (therapy begins 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema extending to foot or ankle; for higher edema, a long cuff is needed.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions and muscle regeneration. Can be used singly or paired, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=half height; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Waist, buttock and abdomen treatment

Pant and belt cuffs are selectable for upper thigh, hip, buttocks and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary if lymphedema extends to the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Fully surrounds the thigh, buttocks and lower abdomen. Provides a wide size range (small–medium–maximum) with a three-row zipper. Integrated airhose; no need to purchase extra airhose.

Belt cuff

Belt-shaped, secured with velcro. Less effective than pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuff PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes using multiple cuffs simultaneously is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy or untreated high blood pressure.

Overview of 4 chamber cuffs

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium offers all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device features 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C and E are used for treating lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1 and change only if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E may also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs operate from bottom to top: first the lowest chamber inflates, then the next.

Program A2 is reversed (top to bottom) and must never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. It is recommended for improving microcirculation in certain peripheral arterial disease stages and post-surgery conditions.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymph vessels).

The menu system is easy to operate. Settings can be saved so next time only the "start" button needs pressing.

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time is adjustable between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops when time elapses.

Treatment guidelines

Follow your doctor or therapist’s instructions.

General guidelines:

The aim is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not recommended.

Begin initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upward (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show best results with leg lymphedema using this method.

Hold each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer holding time ensures more effective lymphedema treatment.

Start with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor treatment effect and increase to 30 minutes if needed. Better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than infrequent long treatments. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each session.

Risks of incorrect use

Apply sufficient 30-60 mmHg pressure for lymph and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause microinjuries, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy or post-infarction need caution: do not exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid overloading the heart.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it may promote spread. However, legs can be safely treated in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively reduces limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Prevention of complications: Reduces risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended duration of use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if necessary. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine compression therapy is unsuitable in certain cases or requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts may be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage may spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.
  • Heart disease and high blood pressure require caution despite treatment: use only one cuff at lower pressure (40-50 mmHg), prefer longer sessions over higher pressure.
