Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is an advanced compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy unit or wave massage unit. These three names refer to the same device, with no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be applied by therapists and in smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that meets strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating Principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump".

Cuffs composed of multiple airchambers are connected to the device. The machine inflates and deflates these chambers one after another. This creates a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, the blood vessels within them, and lymph vessels. This guides excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device offers multiple modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment times according to individual needs.

Conditions and Diseases It Can Treat

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effectively used for a variety of conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: A lymphatic system disorder causing fluid accumulation between tissues, leading to swelling. The device helps reduce swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose vein disease: Improves venous return, easing heaviness, pain, and swelling of legs related to venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Swelling of the arm is common after breast removal surgery due to lymph flow disruption. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: The device can assist in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce post-surgical hematomas by enhancing circulation and promoting absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent clot formation in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff Selection

Accessories for the device can be purchased separately. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for specific body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating arm edema after breast surgery. Leg cuffs are available in lengths up to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs come in belt or pant form for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper Limb Treatment

Arm lymphedema usually occurs unilaterally – one arm cuff is typically enough. Athletes can use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm Cuff

Before purchasing, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and under the armpit of the upper arm. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Lower Limb Treatment

First measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be expanded with zipper extensions if needed!

Half-height leg cuff

Knee-length, specifically used for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment can only start 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable for edema only up to the foot or ankle; higher edema requires a long cuff.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic states, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or in pairs, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=half height; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Waist, Buttocks and Abdomen Treatment

Pant and belt cuffs are available for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are needed when lymphedema reaches the thigh. Suitable also for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant Cuff

Fully surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Offers wide size range with triple zipper (small–medium–maximum). Built-in airhose; no need for additional airhose purchase.

Belt Cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff Combinations

Sometimes using multiple cuffs simultaneously is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated high blood pressure.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device features 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-D-E).

Programs

Use programs A1, C, and E for treating lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E intermediate. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E can also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and post-stroke patients.

These programs operate bottom-up: the lowest chamber inflates first, then the next.

Program A2 is reversed (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. It is recommended for improving microcirculation in certain stages of peripheral arterial disease and postoperative conditions.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "expelling" edema (lymph vessels).

The menu system is user-friendly. Settings can be saved, so next time only the "start" button needs pressing.

It is especially important that chamber pressure be individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set from 5 to 99 minutes. The device stops when time elapses.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow instructions from your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Begin treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves the best results for leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times provide more effective lymphedema treatment.

Start with 20 minutes per session.

Monitor effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It's better to do multiple 30-minute sessions than fewer long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each session.

Risks of Incorrect Use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, 30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure may cause micro-injuries, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-heart attack need special caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg, and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it may promote spread. However, in thyroid cancer cases, legs can be treated safely.

Expected Outcomes

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.

  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.

  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.

  • Complication prevention: Lowers the risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis.

Recommended Usage Duration

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments typically last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and Precautions

Device-based compression therapy isn't suitable in certain cases or requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.

  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.

  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.

  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage may spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Lymphedema after lymph node removal (e.g., Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.

  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.

  • Patients with heart disease and hypertension require extra caution: use only one cuff at low pressure (40-50 mmHg), and prefer longer sessions rather than higher pressure.
