Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy or wave massage device. These three names refer to the same device, with no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be applied by therapists and small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

How it works

The device operates on the principle of a pneumatic compressor, an "air pump."

Cuffs composed of multiple airchambers are connected to the device. The device inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massage effect.

It compresses muscles, the veins within them, and lymphatic vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical action reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device offers various modes allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to individual needs.

Conditions and diseases it treats

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effectively used to treat various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: a lymphatic system disorder causing fluid buildup and swelling between tissues. The device helps reduce this swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: improves venous return, alleviating heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: swelling after breast removal surgery due to lymphatic flow disruption. The device helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: may help manage swelling and improve joint mobility in sufferers.
  • Postoperative hematomas: aids in reducing postoperative hematomas by enhancing circulation and absorption.
  • Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT): used prophylactically to prevent clots in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff Selection

Accessories for the device are sold separately. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the targeted body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and—if health allows—used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating post-breast surgery arm edema. Leg cuffs come in lengths to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs are available as waist or pant types for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper limb treatment

Lymphedema in the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is typically sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and under the upper arm under the underarm. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Lower limb treatment

First, measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be expanded with zip extensions if needed!

Knee-high leg cuff

Knee-length, specifically used for treating post-thrombotic syndrome (treatment starts 3–4 months after thrombosis). Used only for edema up to the foot or ankle; higher edema requires a long cuff.

Thigh-high leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or as a pair, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=knee-high; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Waist, buttocks, and abdomen treatment

Pant and waist cuffs are available for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary if the lymphedema reaches the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic applications such as cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Fully surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Provides a wide size range (small–medium–maximum) with a three-row zipper. Built-in airhose; no need to purchase an additional airhose.

Waist cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than pant cuffs but cheaper. Suitable for lymphedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuff PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=waist cuff; green line and italicized value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, heart attack, cardiomyopathy, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombosis conditions.

The device features 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Use A1, C, and E programs for treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C the strongest, and E middle-strength. Start with A1 and only change if results are insufficient.

A1, C, and E programs also improve muscle regeneration for athletes and stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs operate from bottom to top: first, the lower chamber inflates, then the next.

The A2 program is reverse (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. It is recommended in certain stages of peripheral arterial diseases and post-surgical conditions to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymph vessels).

The menu system is easy to use. You can save settings so the next time only the “start” button needs to be pressed.

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops when time expires.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow the instructions of your doctor or therapist.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is discouraged.

Begin initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g. 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves optimal results for lower leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times provide more effective lymphedema treatment.

Start with 20-minute treatments.

Monitor treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It is better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than fewer long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each session.

Risks of incorrect use

For lymphatic and venous circulation, pressure of 30-60 mmHg is sufficient. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-injuries, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening conditions. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Extra caution is needed for heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-heart attack patients: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissues, as it may promote spread. However, in thyroid cancer cases, legs can be safely treated.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively diminishes limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Eases discomfort from swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Prevention of complications: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis predisposition.

Recommended treatment duration

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymphatic therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine compression therapy is unsuitable in certain cases or requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure may be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts may be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g. erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Post-lymph node removal edema (e.g. after Wertheim operation) requires medical supervision.
  • Tumor-related abdominal swelling only under oncologist supervision.
  • Heart disease and hypertension require increased caution despite treatment: use one cuff at low pressure (40-50 mmHg) and prolong sessions rather than increase pressure.
