Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also called a pressure therapy or wave massage unit. These three names refer to the same device, there is no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use, but can also be used by therapists and small clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The device operates on the principle of a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump".

The device is connected to cuffs that consist of multiple airchambers. The machine inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels within them. This directs excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes the muscles.

The device offers multiple operating modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations according to individual needs.

For which conditions and diseases can it be used?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effectively used for treating various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphoedema (lymphatic edema): A disorder of the lymphatic system causing fluid buildup between tissues, leading to swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by stimulating lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: The device improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous abnormalities.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Arm swelling is common after breast removal surgery due to impaired lymph flow. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: The device can aid in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce postoperative bruising by improving circulation and promoting absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: Used prophylactically to prevent blood clots in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the body part you want to treat.

The arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating arm edema after breast surgery. Leg cuffs are available in knee-length or thigh-long sizes. Waist cuffs come as belt or pant styles for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper limb treatment

Lymphoedema on the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is usually sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fastens the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm below the underarm. Choose M or L size.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italic values indicate length in cm; red line and bold values indicate circumference in cm.

Lower limb treatment

First measure your ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be extended with zippered extensions if necessary!

Half-length leg cuff

Knee-length, specifically used for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment starts 3–4 months after thrombosis). Should only be used for edema up to the foot or ankle; higher edema requires a long cuff.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphoedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or in pairs, extendable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=half-length; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italic values = length in cm; red line and bold values = circumference in cm.

Waist, buttocks, and abdomen treatment

Pant and belt cuffs are available for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary when lymphoedema extends to the thigh. They are also suitable for cosmetic treatments such as cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Fully surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Offers a wide size range (small–medium–maximum) with a three-row zipper. Built-in airhose; no additional airhose purchase needed.

Belt cuff

Belt-shaped, fastened with Velcro. Less effective than the pant cuff but more affordable. Suitable for lymphoedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italic values = length in cm; red line and bold values = circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated high blood pressure.

Overview of 4-chamber cuffs

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphoedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombosis conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Use programs A1, C, and E for the treatment of lymphoedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C is the strongest, and E is intermediate. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E can also improve muscle regeneration for athletes and stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs inflate from bottom to top: first the lower chamber inflates, then the next.

The A2 program is reverse (top-down) and should never be used for lymphoedema or varicose veins. Recommended in certain stages of peripheral arterial diseases and postoperative conditions to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymph vessels).

The menu system is easy to use. Settings can be saved so next time only the "start" button needs to be pressed.

It is particularly important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphoedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops automatically when time is up.

Treatment guidelines

Follow your doctor or therapist's instructions.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Start initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so that the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves best results in lower leg lymphoedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times provide more effective lymphoedema treatment.

Begin with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. Better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than occasional long treatments. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after every session.

Risks of incorrect use

Use 30-60 mmHg pressure for lymphatic and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-injuries, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening the condition. Avoid aggressive high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-heart attack require caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid cardiac overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissues as it may promote spread. However, legs with thyroid cancer can be treated safely.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively reduces limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Alleviates discomfort from swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Reduces risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended duration of use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments typically last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymphoedema therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine lymphatic massage is not suitable in certain cases and requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure may be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments should be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Post-lymph node removal edema (e.g., after Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist control.
  • Heart disease and high blood pressure require increased caution: use one cuff at lower pressure (40-50 mmHg), and prefer longer sessions over higher pressure.
