Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy unit or wave massage unit. These three terms refer to the same device, with no differences.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be applied by therapists and smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating Principle

The device operates on the basis of a pneumatic compressor, a "air pump."

Cuffs attached to the device consist of multiple airchambers. The unit inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymph vessels, directing excess fluid towards the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (excess fluid in tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device offers multiple modes allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment times based on individual needs.

What Conditions and Diseases Can It Treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium can be effectively used to treat various conditions, including:

  • Lymphedema (lymphatic edema): a lymphatic system disorder causing fluid accumulation between tissues and swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by stimulating lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling associated with venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: common after breast removal surgery due to disrupted lymph flow. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: assists in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Post-surgical hematomas: helps reduce postoperative hematomas by improving circulation and promoting absorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: used prophylactically to prevent clot formation in at-risk patients.
  • Sports recovery: excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff Selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Different types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the body part to be treated.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for post-breast surgery arm edema treatment. Leg cuffs are available in knee-length or thigh-length. Waist cuffs come in belt or pant style for treating upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen areas.

Upper Limb Treatment

Lymphedema in the arm is usually unilateral – usually one arm cuff is sufficient. Athletes can use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro straps secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm (under the armpit) before purchase. Choose M or L size.

Lower Limb Treatment

Measure the ankle, calf, knee, and thigh first. Knee and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. They can be expanded with zipper extensions if needed!

Half-height leg cuff

Knee-length, specifically for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment recommended only 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema limited to the foot or ankle; for higher edema, a long cuff is needed.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or as a pair and expanded.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

Trunk, Buttocks and Abdominal Treatment

Pant and waist cuffs are available for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary if lymph edema extends to the thigh. Suitable for cosmetic treatments like cellulite and cavitation as well.

Pant cuff

Completely surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Provides a wide size range (small–medium–maximum) with three-row zipper. Built-in airhose; no need to purchase additional airhose.

Waist cuff

Belt-shaped with velcro fastening. Less effective than the pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Trunk cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=waist cuff; green line and italic values=length in cm; red line and bold values=circumference in cm.

Cuff Combinations

Sometimes it is advisable to use multiple cuffs simultaneously. Contraindicated in heart failure, infarction, cardiomyopathy, or untreated hypertension.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all the settings medically recommended for home maintenance treatment of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Programs A1, C, and E are used for treating lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

A1 is the mildest, C is the strongest, and E is in between. Start with A1 and switch only if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E may also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and post-stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs work from bottom to top: first inflating the bottom chamber, then the next.

The A2 program is the reverse (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. Recommended for certain stages of peripheral arterial disease and post-surgical states to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses the underlying tissues, "squeezing out" the edema (lymphatic vessel).

The menu system is easy to use. Settings can be saved so next time you only need to press the "start" button.

It is especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops automatically when time elapses.

Treatment Guidelines

Follow your doctor’s or therapist’s instructions.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advised.

Start initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressures so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves best results in leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one complete cycle per minute. Longer hold times ensure more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with 20 minutes per session.

Monitor treatment effects and increase to 30 minutes if needed. Better to perform multiple 30-minute sessions than fewer long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after every session.

Risks of Incorrect Use

A pressure of 30-60 mmHg is sufficient for lymphatic and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure can cause micro-injuries, potentially harden edematous tissues, and worsen the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy or post-myocardial infarction require extra caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to avoid overloading the heart.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue, as it may promote spread. In thyroid cancer cases, however, the legs can be treated safely.

Expected Results

  • Reduced swelling: effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: alleviates discomfort caused by swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Prevention of complications: lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis tendency.

Recommended Duration of Use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly for several weeks. Consult a lymph therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and Precautions

Machine compression therapy is not suitable in some cases, and requires caution and lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): high pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: fluid displacement can be dangerous; treatments should be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: compression can dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g. erysipelas): massage can spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g. post-Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Tumor-related abdominal swelling only under oncologist supervision.
  • Heart disease and hypertension require increased caution: use only one cuff at low pressure (40-50 mmHg) and extend sessions rather than increasing pressure.
