Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-tech compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy unit or wave massage unit. These three terms refer to the same device, with no difference.
The device is primarily designed for home use but can also be used by therapists and smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that meets strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The device operates based on a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump."

The device connects to cuffs composed of multiple airchambers. The machine inflates and deflates these sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

This compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels inside, directing excess fluid toward the heart.

This mechanical action reduces edema (fluid between tissues), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device features various modes allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations according to individual needs.

Which conditions and diseases can it treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effective in treating various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphoedema: A lymphatic system disorder causing fluid accumulation between tissues, resulting in swelling. The device helps reduce this swelling by promoting lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: The device improves venous return, relieving leg heaviness, pain, and swelling linked to venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Arm swelling is common after breast removal surgery due to lymph flow disruption. The Power Q-1000 Premium helps reduce this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: The device may assist in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: It helps reduce postoperative hematomas by enhancing circulation and aiding resorption.
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention: The device is used prophylactically to prevent blood clots in patients at risk for DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration efficiency.

Cuff range

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for respective body parts. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating arm edema after breast surgery. Leg cuffs come in lengths up to knee or thigh. Waist cuffs are available as pant or waist styles for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Upper limb treatment

Arm lymphoedema is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is generally sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro straps secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at wrist, forearm, and upper arm below the underarm. Choose M or L size.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italic font value=length in cm; red line and bold font value=circumference in cm.

Lower limb treatment

First, measure ankle, calf, knee, and thigh. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. Expandable with zippers if necessary!

Mid-height leg cuff

Knee-length, suitable especially for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment can start only 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema confined to foot or ankle; higher edema requires a long cuff.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphoedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Usable individually or in pairs, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=mid-height; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italic font value=length in cm; red line and bold font value=circumference in cm.

Waist, buttock, and abdomen treatment

Pant and waist cuffs can be chosen for upper thigh, hip, buttock, and abdomen treatment. These cuffs are necessary if lymphoedema extends to the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic uses such as cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Fully surrounds thigh, buttock, and lower abdomen. Three-row zipper provides a wide size range (small–medium–maximum). Built-in airhose; no additional airhose purchase required.

Waist cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than pant cuff but cheaper. Suitable for lymphoedema and aesthetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuff PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=waist cuff; green line and italic font value=length in cm; red line and bold font value=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, heart attack, cardiomyopathy, or untreated hypertension.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance treatment of lymphoedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Use A1, C, and E programs for lymphoedema, varicose, and post-thrombotic conditions treatment.

A1 is the mildest, C is the strongest, and E is intermediate. Start with A1 and switch only if results are insufficient.

A1, C, and E programs may also improve muscle recovery in athletes and stroke patients.

The A1-C-E programs work bottom-up: starting with the lowest airchamber inflating first, then successively higher chambers.

The A2 program is opposite (top-down) and should never be used for lymphoedema or varicose veins. Recommended for certain peripheral arterial disease stages and post-surgical conditions to improve microcirculation.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses underlying tissues, "squeezing out" edema (lymphatic vessels).

The menu system is easy to operate. Settings can be saved so next time only the "start" button needs pressing.

It's especially important the chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphoedema treatment.

Treatment time can be set between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops when time elapses.

Treatment guidelines

Follow your doctor's or therapist's instructions.

General guidelines:

The goal is improving blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressures are not recommended.

Start initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this achieves best results for lower leg lymphoedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer holding times provide more effective lymphoedema treatment.

Begin with a 20-minute treatment.

Monitor effects and increase to 30 minutes if necessary. It's better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than infrequent long ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after each treatment.

Risks of improper use

30-60 mmHg pressure is sufficient for lymphatic and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressures can cause micro-injuries, potentially harden edematous tissues, and worsen the condition. Avoid aggressive, high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or after heart attack must exercise caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg and use only one cuff at a time to prevent heart overload.

Avoid direct treatment of tumor tissue as it may promote spreading. However, leg treatment is safe in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected results

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively decreases limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Alleviates discomfort from swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Complication prevention: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombotic tendencies.

Recommended duration of use

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments usually last 20-60 minutes and can be repeated daily if needed. For best results, use regularly over several weeks. For a personalized plan, consult a lymphatic therapist.

Contraindications and precautions

Machine compression therapy is inappropriate in some cases or requires caution and low pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure can be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression may dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage may spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Post lymph node removal edema (e.g., after Wertheim's surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.
  • Heart disease and hypertension require increased care: use only one cuff at low pressure (40-50 mmHg), extending session length instead of increasing pressure.
