Details

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a high-performance compression therapy unit. It is also known as a pressure therapy device or wave massage device. These three terms refer to the same device with no differences.
This device is primarily designed for home use, but it can also be used by therapists and smaller clinics.

The Power Q-1000 Premium is a medical device that complies with strict European quality and safety standards.

Operating principle

The operation is based on a pneumatic compressor, essentially an "air pump".

Cuffs consisting of multiple air chambers are connected to the device. The machine inflates and deflates these chambers sequentially, creating a wave-like massaging effect.

It compresses muscles, veins, and lymphatic vessels within them, directing excess fluid toward the heart.

This mechanical effect reduces edema (interstitial fluid), stimulates blood circulation, and refreshes muscles.

The device offers multiple modes, allowing customization of pressure levels, inflation patterns, and treatment durations to individual needs.

What conditions and diseases can it treat?

The Power Q-1000 Premium is effectively used for various conditions and diseases, including:

  • Lymphedema: A lymphatic system disorder causing fluid buildup and swelling in tissues. The device helps reduce swelling by stimulating lymph flow.
  • Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins: It improves venous return, easing leg heaviness, pain, and swelling linked to venous disorders.
  • Post-mastectomy arm swelling: Arm swelling after breast removal surgery due to impaired lymph flow. The Power Q-1000 Premium reduces this postoperative edema.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: It aids in managing swelling and improving joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
  • Postoperative hematomas: Helps reduce postoperative bruising by enhancing circulation and absorption.
  • Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT): Used prophylactically to prevent blood clots in patients at risk of DVT.
  • Sports recovery: Excellent for enhancing muscle regeneration.

Cuff selection

Accessories can be purchased separately for the device. Various types and sizes of cuffs are available. Choose the cuff suitable for the desired body part treatment.

Arm, leg, and waist cuffs are designed for their respective body areas. Up to three cuffs can be connected to the device and, if health permits, used simultaneously.

The arm cuff is especially suitable for treating post-mastectomy arm edema. Leg cuffs are available in sizes reaching up to the knee or thigh. Waist cuffs come as belts or pant cuffs for treating the upper thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

Treatment of upper limbs

Lymphedema in the arm is usually unilateral – one arm cuff is typically sufficient. Athletes may use two arm cuffs to treat both arms simultaneously. Velcro fasteners secure the cuff under the underarm.

Arm cuff

Before purchase, measure your arm at the wrist, forearm, and upper arm below the underarm. Choose size M or L.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium arm cuffs

M–L arm cuff: green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Treatment of lower limbs

Measure your ankle, calf, knee, and thigh first. Knee-length and thigh-length cuffs (M–L–XL) are available. Zip extensions are available if needed!

Mid-height leg cuff

Knee-length, specially used for post-thrombotic syndrome treatment (treatment starts 3–4 months after thrombosis). Suitable only for edema reaching the foot or ankle; for higher edema, a long cuff is required.

Thigh-length leg cuff

Ideal for lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints, post-thrombotic conditions, and muscle regeneration. Can be used individually or as a pair, expandable.

PQ-1000 Plus Premium leg cuff

H=mid-height; M–L–XL=thigh length; green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Treatment of waist, buttocks and abdomen

Pant and belt cuffs are selected for the upper thigh, hip, buttocks, and abdomen. These cuffs are necessary when lymphedema reaches the thigh. Also suitable for cosmetic applications like cellulite and cavitation.

Pant cuff

Completely surrounds the thigh, buttocks, and lower abdomen. Provides a wide size range (small–medium–maximum) with triple zipper closure. Built-in airhose; no need for additional airhose purchase.

Belt cuff

Belt-shaped with Velcro fastening. Less effective than pant cuff but more affordable. Suitable for lymphedema and cosmetic treatments (cellulite).

Waist cuffs PQ-1000 Plus Premium

P=pant; M–L=belt cuff; green line and italic value=length in cm; red line and bold value=circumference in cm.

Cuff combinations

Sometimes the simultaneous use of multiple cuffs is advisable. Contraindicated in heart failure, heart attack, cardiomyopathy, or untreated hypertension.

Application

The Power Q-1000 Premium provides all medically recommended settings for home maintenance therapy of lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic conditions.

The device has 6 programs (A1-A2-B-C-C-D-E).

Programs

Use programs A1, C, and E for lymphedema, varicose veins, and post-thrombotic condition treatment.

A1 is the gentlest, C is the strongest, and E is intermediate. Start with A1 and only switch if results are insufficient.

Programs A1, C, and E can also improve muscle regeneration in athletes and stroke patients.

These programs work bottom-up: the lower chamber inflates first, followed by the next.

The A2 program operates in reverse order (top-down) and should never be used for lymphedema or varicose veins. It's recommended for improving microcirculation in some stages of peripheral arterial disease and postoperative conditions.

The inflated chamber pressure compresses tissues beneath, "squeezing out" edema (lymph vessels).

The menu system is user-friendly. Settings can be saved so that only the "start" button needs to be pressed next time.

It's especially important that chamber pressure is individually adjustable for optimal leg lymphedema treatment.

Treatment duration is adjustable between 5 and 99 minutes. The device stops automatically when the time ends.

Treatment guidelines

Follow your doctor or therapist's instructions.

General guidelines:

The goal is to improve blood and lymph circulation without excessive pressure; high pressure is not advisable.

Start initial treatments with program A1.

Set pressure so that the lowest chamber has the highest pressure, decreasing upwards (e.g., 60-50-50-50-40 mmHg). Studies show this yields the best results for lower leg lymphedema.

Maintain each pressure for 13-15 seconds, allowing one full cycle per minute. Longer hold times provide more effective lymphedema treatment.

Begin with 20-minute sessions.

Monitor the treatment effect and increase to 30 minutes if needed. It's better to have multiple 30-minute sessions than fewer longer ones. Total daily treatment should not exceed 120 minutes.

Be patient. Effects should be evaluated after 3-4 treatments; avoid changing settings after every session.

Risks of incorrect use

Applying adequate pressure of 30-60 mmHg is sufficient for lymphatic and venous circulation. International studies recommend this range.

Higher pressure may cause microinjuries, potentially hardening edematous tissues and worsening conditions. Avoid aggressive high-pressure treatments.

Patients with heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, or post-heart attack require caution: never exceed 40-50 mmHg, and use only one cuff at a time to avoid cardiac overload.

Avoid direct treatment on tumor tissue as it may promote spread. However, leg treatment is safe in thyroid cancer cases.

Expected outcomes

  • Reduced swelling: Effectively reduces limb edema.
  • Pain relief: Alleviates discomfort from swelling and venous insufficiency.
  • Improved mobility: Increases joint range of motion by reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Prevention of complications: Lowers risk of venous ulcers and thrombosis propensity.

Recommended usage duration

Frequency and duration depend on condition and individual factors. Treatments generally last 20-60 minutes and may be repeated daily if needed. For optimal results, use regularly over several weeks. Consult a lymphatic therapist for a personalized plan.

Contraindications and precautions

Mechanical compression therapy is unsuitable in some cases and requires caution or lower pressure in others.

Contraindications:

  • Severe peripheral arterial disease (PAD): High pressure may be harmful.
  • Severe heart failure: Fluid shifts can be dangerous; treatments must be limited and cautious.
  • Active DVT: Compression could dislodge clots; absolutely contraindicated.
  • Acute skin infections (e.g., erysipelas): Massage may spread pathogens and worsen inflammation.

Use with caution:

  • Edema after lymph node removal (e.g., Wertheim surgery) requires specialist supervision.
  • Abdominal swelling related to tumors only under oncologist guidance.
  • Heart disease and hypertension require extra caution despite treatment: use only one cuff at lower pressure (40-50 mmHg), and prolong sessions rather than increase pressure.
