Lipoedema (lipedema) is a chronic, symmetrical and painful accumulation of subcutaneous fatty tissue – typically on the hips, thighs, calves and upper arms, while the waist, feet and backs of the hands remain slim. It affects almost exclusively women and is often linked to hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause. Important: this is not obesity, and it cannot be eliminated by dieting – a completely different mechanism is involved. Treatment has several elements, and one home-use option is a pneumatic compression (lymphatic drainage) device.
What can a lymphatic drainage device do, and what can it not do?
Pneumatic compression is a valuable home-use tool in the maintenance treatment of lipoedema: it may help reduce tightness, heavy-leg sensations and associated oedema. It is important to be realistic: it does not remove lipoedematous fatty tissue, and it is not a miracle cure on its own. The consistent message from clinical evidence is that it is most useful alongside compression garments, movement and physiotherapy – as part of combined treatment. The exact diagnosis and stage must always be determined by a doctor.

Which Power Q device is right for you?
Lipoedema gradually becomes more severe, and the stage affects which device is most suitable. The devices mainly differ in the number of air chambers and the precision of their controls; with suitable settings, all can be used at home in stages 1–3.
The Power Q-2200 is a simple, easy-to-use entry-level system. It is sufficient for maintenance treatment in stage 1 and for getting started with home treatment. It has 4 air chambers, while leg, arm, hip/buttock and shorts cuffs can be selected separately in several sizes. A good choice if you are just starting home treatment.
The Power Q-1000 Premium is an advanced home-use device with programme saving and precise pressure adjustment. This makes it suitable for long-term daily treatment in stages 1–3. It also has 4 air chambers, and the cuffs are available separately in several sizes. It is the most suitable choice if you are planning regular, long-term maintenance treatment.
Models with more air chambers provide a more precise, sequential massage effect. The Power Q-8060 (6 air chambers) is intended for more demanding home users and lymphatic therapy practices; the Power Q-8120 (12 air chambers) offers the most detailed control, for intensive home protocols and clinical use. These models may be advantageous in stage 3 or when more intensive treatment is needed.
The device is only one element – treatment is combined
Keep the overall picture in mind: pneumatic compression is one element of lipoedema treatment, not a treatment on its own. Clinical studies consistently show that the most useful approach is a combination of compression garments + mechanical compression + regular movement + lifestyle measures – the device alone does not provide the same lasting result as combined treatment. Movement at low-to-moderate intensity while wearing compression garments is most beneficial. Always agree the device settings (pressure, programme and time) with your doctor or lymphatic therapist.
Before you start – important information
The diagnosis and stage of lipoedema must be established by a doctor; the devices presented here are additions to comprehensive treatment and do not replace medical or physiotherapy care. Pneumatic compression is a safe procedure, but medical consultation is essential before use in certain situations: acute deep vein thrombosis or suspected thrombosis, severe heart failure, active skin infection or an open wound in the treated area, severe peripheral arterial disease, untreated high blood pressure, or a malignant tumour in the treated region. Start treatment at low pressure and for a short time. For lipoedema protocols, the usual reference range is 30–60 mmHg – but your doctor must determine the exact settings. Consult a doctor if you develop new symptoms, increasing swelling or pain.
