Natural rock salt
DETAILS
Salt therapy, or salt air inhalation, has been considered a medical treatment since the early 1800s. However, its beneficial effects were already known to the ancient Greeks. For example, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, recommended the inhalation of salt water vapour for people with breathing difficulties.
Salt air is found naturally along the coasts and in the shafts of rock salt mines. It is produced artificially in salt chambers or salt rooms. You can also buy salt therapy equipment to make salt vapour in your home and enjoy its benefits. You can prevent a range of diseases or treat your symptoms.
How does salt therapy work?
It kills pathogens
Salt kills most bacteria, viruses and fungi. It does this by a simple process called osmosis. For example, when the salt concentration outside the bacterial cells increases, water from inside the bacteria flows out of the cell to balance the salt concentration. The bacterial cell then slowly loses its water content, becoming dehydrated. In the absence of water, enzymes and proteins malfunction and their structure breaks down.
Put simply, salt "sucks the water" out of the bacteria, leading to the death of the pathogen. Some bacteria may be more resistant to saline conditions (halotolerant).
Dissolves the mucus
Salt particles enter the respiratory tract with the breath. They stick to mucous membranes. Due to the osmotic effect, salt attracts water and loosens and liquefies the mucus. This makes it easier and faster to clear the mucus from the respiratory tract and supports the self-cleansing process. This effect can be exploited in asthma, CODP, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia and sinusitis.
Neutralises allergens
It is a natural antihistamine, i.e. it relieves allergic reactions. Reduces inflammation and swelling of mucous membranes.
Helps the immune system
Salt improves the body's physical, biochemical activity, increases metabolism, blood and lymph circulation.
In most upper respiratory diseases, it accelerates healing and relieves symptoms.
Is dry or wet salt therapy more effective?
Two types of salt therapy devices are available in shops: dry and wet.
Dry salt therapy machines blow out salt particles and you breathe them in. The salt draws moisture from the cells of the airways to dissolve secretions. In this way, dry salt therapy dries out the airways, which is undesirable.
Other devices, such as the Saltdome, provide wet salt therapy from saline solution. The salt particles are released in small amounts (up to 10-30ml per hour) of vapour. This does not significantly raise the humidity in the room, but is enough to reduce the drying effect of salt on the airways.
We believe that the Saltdome wet salt therapy is therefore more effective in treating upper airway problems than dry salt therapy devices.
For what conditions does salt therapy help?
Salt therapy is effective in both children and adults! For mild symptoms, salt therapy alone can improve symptoms. For severe complaints and more serious illnesses, use it as a complement to medical treatment - it relieves your symptoms, stimulates your immune system, speeds up the progression of the illness and reduces the amount of medication you need to heal.

- neurodermatitis
Prevent recurrent colds
One of the main uses of salt therapy is to prevent upper respiratory infections and allergies.
In spring-autumn and winter, the variable damp and mild weather is conducive to the development of colds, flu, sinusitis, bronchitis, etc. Children 'pass on' germs to each other at nursery and school. The diseases thus 'brought home' then 'spread' to all members of the family.
A recent study has shown that children who were treated with preventive salt therapy even when healthy had no or significantly fewer illnesses.
The situation is similar for spring-summer-autumn pollen-induced allergies. Start salt therapy 1-2 weeks before the allergy season and you can prevent symptoms or significantly reduce their intensity.
In other words, use salt air therapy during critical periods to prevent yourself and your family from getting sick again.
Salt therapy is not for acute symptoms!
Salt therapy is not for the immediate relief of acute symptoms and is not a substitute for medical therapy!
Salt therapy is a significant help in preventing respiratory illness (but not a guarantee that you will not get sick)
If you do become ill, salt therapy can be used as a complement to medical treatment. It helps to make the course of the illness milder and the recovery time shorter.
Operation principle
The SaltDome device uses an ultrasonic cell to produce saline air from a salt solution. To do this, water is poured into the device's reservoir, in which a scoop of salt is dissolved (mixed until dissolved).
When the apparatus is switched on, the celle at the bottom of the tank emits an ultrasonic beam whose vibrations convert the brine into a fine spray. A tiny fan blows it out of the device.
The SaltDome saline therapy device is NOT A HUMIDIFIER. A humidifier is another type of device designed to release a lot of water vapour from clean water!
The small amount of salt spray produced by the SaltDome does not affect the humidity in the room. The effect of salt therapy is not the amount of humidity, but the very small salt particles produced by the device and the inhalation of these for as long as possible!
The smaller the salt particles, the better the effect
The salt particles penetrate the lungs to a depth that depends on their size. For example, the coarse and dry salt particles in a salt pipe condense in your throat, so they only have an effect in upper respiratory diseases. It has been proven that only salt particles smaller than 8 microns can reach the airways and air sacs of the lungs. You can expect the strongest effect if your device produces particles smaller than 5 micrometres.
The SaltDome's ultrasonic cell produces such tiny particles. They easily enter the sinuses, large and small airways and even the alveoli of the lungs. Therapeutically, it is the most effective form of salt therapy.
When can you expect a positive effect?
Do not expect a significant effect from one or two treatments a month! This is the disadvantage of built-in salt rooms. You have to travel there, you pay for it and you use it for too short a time.
The more time you spend in the salt air, the stronger the effect. If you have a salt therapy device, you can produce salt air at any time and spend several hours a day in the salt steam.
The SaltDome salt therapy device is recommended for long term salt therapy treatments. The best time for this is at night. Place the device on the bedside table or on the shelf above the bed. The strongest effect is obtained when the device is one to one and a half metres away from the head. The further away you place it, the lower the salt concentration. As the distance increases, the effect decreases.
A similarly good place for treatment is your workplace. If your work involves a desk, for example, a desk-top device is an excellent solution.
With the recommended amount of salt, the salt vapour will not deposit on furniture or damage technical equipment.
SaltDome salt therapy device
The SaltDome Salt Therapy device produces a salt vapour from a salt solution in a water tank and blows it into the air in the room.
The ultrasonic humidification cell produces very small salt particles (2 microns across). This size is ideal for reaching the deepest part of your lungs and working everywhere.
The salt concentration released by the device is uniform
Works for several days on a single charge - when the tank runs out, it stops automatically.
Adjustable operating time: 1 - 3 - 6 hours or continuous operation.
The salt concentration is optimum at a distance of one to one and a half metres from the unit and decreases further away. It is therefore advisable to stay close to the appliance (bedside table, desk).
The salt vapour emitted by the appliance will not coat furniture or damage your electronic equipment.
The SaltDome emits only a small amount of water vapour, and the vapour is not always visible to the naked eye! The SaltDome is not a humidifier and is not a substitute for room humidifiers.
DO NOT put medicinal water or Salvus water in the water tank of the SaltDome. These can damage your unit and may void your warranty.
Sea salt is not recommended because it contains impurities that are not good for the lungs. Iodised salt is also not suitable.
The advantage of the SaltDome (over Salin devices, for example) is that it does not require a salt insert, so there is no meaningful recurring cost. Himalayan and Parajdi rock salts are also available in our store. One dose can last for several years of use (depending on the frequency of use).

Can pathogens grow inside the device?
You may ask, if you don't use the appliance for a few days, can bacteria build up in the tank?
Normally not! The strong disinfectant effect of salt has been used by people for a long time. For example, in salt curing, meat is rubbed with salt or immersed in brine. The salt prevents bacteria from multiplying and kills most of the bacteria already in the meat. So if the salt prevents even the meat from spoiling, the salt water cannot be contaminated "just by standing".
However, it may be the case that pathogens are introduced into the tank which the salt does not kill! But this is only possible if you fill the device with soil, faeces, animal faeces, blood or spit and saliva and you introduce the pathogens yourself. Such a serious hygiene error, contamination of the device, can only be committed intentionally!
If normal hygiene rules are observed, the salt tank of the appliance will disinfect the salt solution itself and will not allow pathogens, fungi and algae to multiply.
Nevertheless, if you do not use the appliance for a long period of time, empty the tank, clean it according to the instructions in the user manual and fill it with clean brine.
