DETAILS

DermaDry Total is a drug and needle-free solution for abnormal hand, foot or underarm sweating.

The DermaDry is specifically designed for home treatment of hyperhidrosis, making it extremely easy to use and can be learnt in minutes. A treatment lasts 15-20 minutes. A course of 12-14 treatments will give you 6-8 weeks of dry skin. Sweating will return over time, at which point another course of treatment is required.

Recommended for people over the age of 13. Younger children's skin is thinner and more sensitive, so the discomfort of the treatment is less tolerated.

The device uses state-of-the-art ionophoresis to ensure the best results.

Reliability of ionophoresis is confirmed by the fact that it is recommended by the International Society of Hyperhidrosis as one of the most effective treatment tools. Clinically proven results! Studies have shown that the success rate for the treatment of hyperhidrosis is between 93% and 100%!

  • Tap water acts evenly over the entire problem area. If, for example, your palms sweat, it will eliminate it in the entire palm area, not just one part.
  • A certain amount of current is needed to eliminate sweating. If you don't feel the electric treatment, it means you've set a low current and should expect minimal effect.
  • The success of the treatment depends in part on the strength of the current applied. Higher current is more effective but can be uncomfortable.
  • The amount of current you can tolerate is different for everyone. You should adjust it according to the sensitivity of your skin.
  • Your hands, feet and armpits require different amperage. In general, hands and feet can handle more current than armpits.
  • The frequency of treatments depends on the severity of the hyperhidrosis. In mild cases, you only need to treat every other day, while in severe cases you can treat up to two times a day.
  • Treatments should be given in a series of courses. That is, treat intensively for 10-14 days and then switch to "maintenance" after the positive effect is achieved, i.e. 1-2 treatments per week for 2-3 months to maintain the positive condition.
  • Once the heavy sweating starts again, start another intensive treatment.
  • After a few months, you can rely on your experience. Treat accordingly as your sweating decreases and returns.
  • Plumbing iontophoresis does not cure the disease itself, but it can reduce symptoms for weeks. The main advantage is that you don't need to take or use any chemicals.

Contraindications

You should not use iontophoresis to treat hyperhidrosis if any of the following apply. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

  • have a pacemaker
  • have an ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator)
  • have a heart problem (such as a heart rhythm problem)
  • have had an epileptic seizure
  • Pregnancy or the possibility of pregnancy
  • have an intrauterine device (IUD) containing metals
  • metallic implant in or near the area to be treated
  • large area of skin lesions, epithelial defects (if so large that you cannot cover with Vaseline)
  • skin infections
  • polyneuropathy in the treated area
  • tumour in the area to be treated
  • acute phlebitis and thrombosis

Possible side effects

The side effects of iontophoresis are almost exclusively mild and transient, i.e. they disappear soon after treatment is stopped.

  • Irritation, redness (erythema), burning sensation, small blisters (vesiculation) and itching (pruritus). If you experience these, use a lower intensity, but wait until the symptoms have completely disappeared before your next treatment.
  • "Stinging" sensations. You may feel a slight pain at the start of the treatment or after a polarity change due to the electric current. If you reduce the intensity of the treatment, the sensation will go away (although the effectiveness of the treatment will also be slightly reduced)
  • Increased sweating. After the first few treatments, you may find that sweating seems to increase instead. Don't worry, after a few treatments it will "go back to normal", i.e. it will decrease.
  • Dry skin. Iontophoresis can cause the skin to dry out. Use a moisturizer after treatments.

About the treatment

What kind of water should you use?

For treatment, you need plain tap water! The quality of water may vary from one municipality to another. If the water is too soft, the iontophoresis effect may be lost. Soft water may not contain enough minerals or electrolytes (tiny electrical particles). DO NOT use softened water!

If the effect of tap water treatment is mild, try the following:

  • Add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water for each treatment.
  • some clinicians have found that salt water has a stronger effect, so add a quarter teaspoon (1 gram) of table salt to the water and treat that way.

More information

For each treatment profile (palm-scalp-honey) there are different maximum current values. For feet it is 25 mA, for hands 15 mA and for armpits 8 mA. The maximum value is 55V for feet, 48V for hands and 30V for armpits.
The device is designed to stop increasing the current (mA) when the maximum treatment voltage per profile is reached, for safety reasons. This can mean that in the case of high skin resistance, for example dry, crusty palms, the treatment will not start. In this case, the skin resistance should be reduced before treatment (see below)

High skin resistance

High skin resistance (thick, dry, hard skin) will affect the treatment.
For example, high skin resistance is indicated if you set the current for the foot treatment to 25mA, but after the treatment starts the current only shows 15-20mA (not reaching the set value), meanwhile the treatment voltage is 55V. This is a safety feature to prevent the skin from being damaged by too high a current.

It does, however, mean that the skin resistance is high.
The skin resistance essentially means how easily the skin conducts electricity and the treatment voltage is calculated and delivered automatically accordingly.

Reducing skin resistance

  • Soak your feet in lukewarm water for 10 minutes before the treatment and then you can start the treatment immediately afterwards.
  • In the treatment trays, measure exactly 250-250ml of water.
  • The water poured into the trays should also be warm (body temperature, i.e. 36-38 degrees Celsius).
