Electrode garments for pain relief
DETAILS
Dolito is an advanced, portable electrical nerve stimulator device designed primarily for pain relief and muscle stimulation. The medical device, manufactured by the German company MTR+ Vertriebs GmbH, is CE certified and meets the strict European requirements for medical devices. The device has an expected lifetime of 10 years if used correctly.
Principle of operation and mechanism of action of the Dolito
The Dolito works on the principle of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), a scientifically proven pain relief therapy method.
The electrical impulses generated by the device are delivered to the nerve fibres through the electrodes and the skin.
The analgesic effect is based on two main mechanisms. One is the principle of gating , where electrical impulses block the transmission of pain signals to the brain. The other mechanism is the stimulation of beta-endorphinrelease - the body's own natural painkiller compounds that have a morphine-like effect, but without the side effects of morphine.
Main uses and indications
The device is excellent for relieving pain of various origins.
It can be particularly effective in the treatment of neck, back and lumbar spinal pain. It can also be used with good results for arthritis, circulatory problems, nerve pain (neuralgia) and muscle pain.
It can also help relieve phantom pain, pain after fractures and pelvic floor muscle pain.
The built-in 5th program is specifically designed for the weakened but intact muscles with a specific work/rest rhythm.
How the device works
Dolito can be used in three different TENS modes.
- The continuous (CONT) mode uses constant, unchanging current pulses.
- In the modulated (MOD) mode, the parameters (frequency, pulse width, intensity) change automatically and regularly, which delays the body's adaptation to the stimuli.
- The third mode is burst (BST) mode, which emits 9 pulses twice per second at a preset frequency - this helps natural endorphin production.
Contraindications to electrotherapy treatments
TENS is a safe and side-effect-free treatment. There are very few conditions that are considered contraindications.
The use of TENS is not recommended in the following cases:
Pacemakers or other implanted electrical devices: the electrical signals from TENS devices may interfere with older types of pacemakers or other electrical devices (if used in close proximity to such devices)
During pregnancy: Especially in the first trimester, avoid the use of TENS on the abdomen, lower back and lower back, as electrical stimulation may have adverse effects on the foetus.
Patients with epilepsy: Electrical impulses applied in the head and neck region may induce seizures in patients with epilepsy.
In malignant neoplasms: TENS is considered to be of ambiguous value. Many do not recommend its use directly over or near the tumour, while others recommend it as an adjunct to pain of tumour origin in order to reduce the patient's need for medication.
For fresh wounds, skin lesions, open wounds: electrodes should not be placed on open wounds or inflamed skin areas - they may cause further irritation or impede healing.
Other conditions are not exclusionary, but the pros and cons of application should be weighed (by the treating physician).
Programmes of the Dolito TENS
The device has 5 pre-programmed and one freely programmable treatment programme.
Programmes 1-4 contain different pain relief protocols, programme 5 is for muscle strengthening.
The programmable 6th program allows perfect adaptation to individual needs.
The duration of the treatment (1-599 minutes), the stimulation mode, the frequency (1-150 Hz) and the pulse width (50-350 μs) can be set.
Correct use of the electrodes
The effectiveness of the treatment depends largely on the correct application of the electrodes.
Self-adhesive electrodes should be placed on a clean, healthy skin surface. The distance between the electrodes should not exceed 20 cm. In case of heavy hair, the area should be trimmed.
The electrodes should be replaced regularly when their adhesion decreases.
Treatment procedure and practical advice
Before starting the treatment, check that the battery is charged and that the electrodes are connected correctly.
Once the desired programme has been selected, the intensity should be gradually increased by pressing the "+" button until a firm but not unpleasant sensation is felt.
The device has a built-in safety feature - after one minute the intensity increase is locked, which can be released by pressing three buttons. In the event of a broken circuit (e.g. a dropped electrode), stimulation stops automatically.
Maintenance and hygiene
The device is virtually maintenance-free, but requires regular cleaning. It can be cleaned using a damp cloth with a mild detergent (Clinell készülék fertőtlenítő kendő). The device is not waterproof and should be protected from moisture. Disinfectant cleaning is required before transfer to another patient.
Memory
Dolito has a built-in memory that records treatment data. It can store up to 60 days of treatment data, with 5 treatments per day. This allows the doctor or therapist to follow and evaluate the therapy.
The device can also be locked to a specific programme to ensure that the patient only uses the prescribed treatment.
Advantages and limitations of the device
The main advantage of Dolito is that it is an easy-to-use pain relief device that can be used at home. It can be effective in relieving pain of various origins without the need for medication.
However, it is important to know that it is not effective for all types of pain and there are conditions (such as headaches) where it should not be used. It is always advisable to consult a doctor or physiotherapist on the optimal use before starting treatment.
Overall, the Dolito is a versatile, reliable and safe electrical stimulation device that, when used correctly, can be effective in providing pain relief and muscle regeneration. Built-in safety features and detailed instructions for use support correct use, but strict adherence to contraindications and precautions is important.
