What is a lymphatic massage device for?
The lymphatic massage device (medical name: pneumatic compression device) directs and guides the movement of lymph and venous blood from the limb toward the trunk by sequentially inflating the air chambers of the treatment cuffs. It is a medical device developed specifically to support venous and lymphatic circulation.
The most common uses: lymphedema, lipedema, varicose complaints and chronic venous insufficiency, post-thrombotic swelling, pregnancy-related varicose veins, and sport recovery. These conditions – except for sport – according to current therapeutic opinion require continuous, daily treatment, which cannot be solved by visiting a clinic. A home device for this purpose is not a “luxury” but a basic tool necessary to reduce edema.
Tip for choosing a device
When choosing a device, you should primarily consider what condition you are treating, how severe it is (stage), and which body part is affected. This determines whether a simpler (and cheaper) device is sufficient or whether you need a device capable of more precise treatment – and which cuff is required.

How to choose a lymphatic massage device?
All lymphatic massage devices work with air-chamber cuffs, but they are not all intended for the same uses. What is suitable for an evening heavy-leg feeling is different from what is needed for a firm stage-3 lymphedema, and different again for a clinic that treats many patients daily.
Therefore, don't start your choice with price or the number of air chambers. A good device is not the one that can do the most, but the one that fits your condition — with the right cuff.

Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a disease of the lymphatic system that can cause persistent swelling, increasing firmness and skin changes. Pneumatic compression is an important element of complex treatment (compression stockings, exercise, skin care, specialist manual drainage) and can form the cornerstone of long-term maintenance treatment at home.
For mild, stage 1–2 edema, 4-chamber devices are sufficient. For old, firm stage 3–4 edema, keratosis or ulceration, the programmable Power Q-1000 Premium or the multi-chamber professional models with finer treatment profiles are indicated. Even a simpler device is far better than leaving the edema untreated!

Arm lymphedema – after breast surgery
After breast surgery, radiation or lymph node removal, an arm cuff of appropriate size is required rather than a leg cuff. Careful initiation with lower pressures and use only in agreement with your physician or therapist is particularly important.
Lipedema (fat edema)
Lipedema is a chronic, symmetric accumulation of subcutaneous adipose tissue that almost exclusively affects women. A lymphatic massage device does not “burn off” the fat tissue but complements compression, exercise and lifestyle measures: it can help reduce tightness, the heavy-leg sensation and the edematous component.
The pant cuff available for the Power Q-8120 can be used for hip-abdomen circumferences up to 160 cm.

Varicose veins, venous insufficiency, post-thrombotic condition
Chronic venous insufficiency, post-thrombotic syndrome and venous ulcers share persistent venous circulation disturbance and tissue fluid stagnation. Machine treatment complements compression stockings: it moves venous blood and interstitial fluid upward in stages. For these conditions, devices with lower starting pressure ranges and simple interfaces are typically sufficient.
Pregnancy-related varicose veins
Pneumatic compression can be used to treat venous stasis during pregnancy, but with increased caution: low pressures (15–30 mmHg), lateral position, short sessions (15–20 minutes), and always after prior consultation with the treating physician or obstetrician.

Sport recovery
After intense training or competition, intermittent compression can relieve delayed onset muscle soreness and support recovery. Sport protocols differ from edema treatment: higher pressures (60–100 mmHg), shorter sessions (15–30 minutes), often immediately after exertion. Multi-chamber professional models are especially popular among runners, cyclists and triathletes.

4, 6 or 12 air chambers?
The number of air chambers indicates into how many stages the cuff rolls the pressure along the limb. This is not just a technical spec but a practical difference: more chambers = finer, more continuous treatment that better resembles manual lymphatic drainage.

Cuffs and accessories
The device alone is not enough: treatment requires the appropriate leg, arm, pant or torso cuff and air tubing that match your complaint and body size. A leg cuff is needed for leg edema, an arm cuff for post-breast-surgery arm swelling, and a pant cuff for lipedema affecting the thigh-hip-abdomen area. Before purchase, measure the limb circumference – the cuff should fit comfortably and snugly without gaps.
What to consider before buying?
- Condition and stage: mild heavy-leg sensation or advanced firm edema? This determines the required device level.
- Treated body part: leg, arm, thigh-hip-abdomen or torso? Match the cuff type accordingly.
- Body size: choose cuff size by limb circumference and height; for extra size the Q-8120 pant cuff is usable up to 160 cm circumference.
- Usage frequency: 4-chamber devices are suitable for 1–2 daily home sessions; Q-8060 / Q-8120 for clinic use with many daily treatments.
- Pressure range and programmability: edema treatment needs lower, graduated pressure; sport needs higher. Premium and professional models offer program memory and finer settings.
- Special conditions: suspected thrombosis, heart failure, malignancy, pregnancy or open wounds require medical consultation first (see below).
Important safety note
Pneumatic compression is a safe procedure, but in the following cases ask for medical advice before purchase and use:
- Acute deep vein thrombosis or suspicion of it – treatment only with medical permission and monitoring
- Severe heart failure – increased venous return may worsen the condition
- Active skin infection or open wound in the treated area – not recommended until healed
- Severe peripheral arterial disease – individual assessment and low pressure are required
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure – after stabilization, on medical advice
- Active malignant tumor in the treated region – only with oncologist approval
- First trimester of pregnancy and complicated pregnancy – only after obstetric consultation
The device does not replace medical evaluation
Pneumatic compression is one element of complex treatment and does not replace medical or physiotherapeutic care. For new complaints, increasing swelling, pain or skin changes, first clarify the cause of the symptom – good treatment is based on diagnosis, not guesswork.
In international medical terminology the lymphatic massage device is called a pneumatic compression device, and the treatment is known as intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC). The term "lymphatic massage device" is used only in our country.
